Texas Republicans were really arrogant enough to think this wouldn't be competitive. I guess that makes sense when there hasn't been any Democrat to actually go county to county like Beto has in decades.
Perhaps, but Ted Cruz is still leading in polls despite Whitey O'Rouke packing 100 person venues in small towns across Texas and as you said, this was with Cruz not really campaigning.
Keep clinging to those within-the-margin-of-error polls and mocking the guy generating support in towns Democrats haven't bothered with in the past. We'll see how that works out. There's a reason Club for Growth is racing into the state with an emergency seven-figure ad buy.
I also think its funny that the gop decided to do this the day after Beto appeared at the Spider House with lots of young and hopefully new voters.
I don't think anyone can blame Whitey O'Rourke for not wanting to debate Ted Cruz, right now the whole of his campaign is a nickname. Getting destroyed in a debate and actually having to talk issues would only hurt his campaign. He'd be smart to continue to duck debates.
Yes, keep believing this is Wendy Davis (who was never within even fifteen points in the polls). Don't bother voting for Ted. He's got it in the bag.
Just make sure you keep your "BETO" merch, it'll be really funny to pull out in a few years once everyone has forgotten about him. I still have a Kinky Friedman doll that is every bit as hilarious today as it was when I bought it.
I still don't understand the idiocy (and the idiots spouting it) of comparing this race and the Democratic candidate to that previous governor's race. The 2 have nothing in common other than there's a Dem running against republican and it takes part in Texas. O'Rourke's rise is nothing like what happened 4 years ago. It's intellectually much easier to compare the 2 because the incredible small amount of brain power it takes to realize there is nothing a like is missing from some...especially those that seem to think it's appropriate to inject race into making fun of the candidate's name. But then again, who would expect anything more from such mentally deficient posters?
Yes, this is exactly like the 2006 governor's race where four candidates split the vote and no one got over forty percent. Who can forget Kinky criss-crossing the state and not just relying on tv hits and interviews with Don Imus?
I even went to the right-win conspiracy sites, and I couldn't find any reporting on how Beto's dad used his connections to get his son out of trouble. Will appreciate any link that details these shenanigans.
Yea-ah, or not. Even if there's a shred of truth to it, plenty of fathers use whatever connections they can to help their children. Does the GOP really want to go after that given the most egregious (I mean, like, developing world dictatorship style) nepotism at the very top of their party?
Heck, my cousin failed his draft physical back in late '60's because of a "bad knee." I've always thought that his father knew someone on the draft board that made it happen. I asked him, he laughed, and didn't say a word. My cousin water skied barefoot while I managed the ski boat long before the physical. While I've seen zero evidence that Beto's dad did anything at all, I could care less if he did. How about the numerous deferments trump got for being from a rich family? Any complaints about that?
FWIW, not that anyone cares, I like Beto better for having been in a band, especially if it was a weird band. versus... a mime troupe and being the Zodiac killer? Are y'all kidding me?
@B-Bob, @Deckard, I feel differently. A judge making charges go away for his son is corruption and I do care about corruption and the people who benefit from the fruits of that corruption. But, the allegation looks like total BS, and worse a lazy assumption of @Bandwagoner 's own creation. So I'm interested to know. If there was some credible story about manipulating the justice system for Beto's benefit (and Beto not owning it the way he's owned responsibility for the arrests themselves), it'd make me see Beto differently.
I think I found it... dwi son and dad cleaning up after him: http://polipace.com/2018/02/09/florida-rep-matt-gaetz-targeted-anti-dui-campaign/ Hmm... maybe we should just drop this?
I'm confused about the GOP strategy with Beto. All its making me want to do is see if he's open to starting a band. "Vote for Ted... where we can all be sober on Friday nights, wear Dockers and a Polo to mow the lawn, and only have sex once a year on my birthday"
