    “But on Monday, O'Rourke complained that Cruz's campaign has "attempted to dictate" the time, the moderators, and the subjects for the debates. He said, "We're working through those differences, and we're trying to introduce more of a collaborative style to the negotiations than he may be used to. And so we're confident that out of that, we're going to come to something good."

    The RCP average still has Cruz up by 5.5, it's hard to put too much stock into just one poll with a fairly small sample.

    A 4 or 5 point lead in tx is a risky one to say the least. Especially with having such low turnout history.

    I expect Cruz to really pull out all the stops with the evangelical vote. He will really try everything to bring abortion up, and talk about how liberals are trying to destroy your religion. It’s the only chance he has to get good turnout on the Republican side. That and dirty up Beto to suppress his voters which is going to be tough since Beto is becoming quite the guy here in TX.

    Forgive the sketchy source (washington examiner)... but it appears republicans had been overconfident with inevitable...

    5.5 includes polls from months ago. If the race is indeed tightening, Cruz's advantage may be closer to 3%. Of course the more recent polling is also registered voters, while most of the old polls were likely voters.

    Beto remains a long shot, but so was Trump. Of course, Trump didn't have to win the popular vote, Beto does.

    Yeah, only the most brainwashed still believe in trickle down or "voodo econics per Bush so what else if left. One of the great ironies is that the anti-abortionists, who have reduced their Christianity to largely abortion and opposition to gay righs d have ,by voting for the party of low wages, and poor healthcare and lack of free contraception for poor women, actually increased the number of abortions in America;

    Meh........ he said he will debate him, just not this friday.

    Honestly, I don't know how much debating Cruz really helps him.... he is still the underdog but he has made up a lot of ground and is getting lots of attention as it is.

    If I were Beto, I would insist on 1 debate and lay out where it would take place (San Antonio would be my choice), who would moderate it, and the rules he would accept. Few actually watch these things, which is a lousy reflection on the average Texas voter in either party. Cruz will be trying to get one statement from Beto that he can use against him, likely taken out of context, and will then plaster it across the state in every media outlet we've got. Cruz is a liar. He lies effortlessly. He'll lie in a debate and attempt to provoke O'Rourke, hoping to get that one statement he can twist into a pretzel. In my opinion.

    In other words, I don't think a debate helps Beto at all. Insist on weighting the venue, rules, day and time of the debate so heavily in Beto's favor that Cruz will refuse to accept them. Beto doesn't need to debate Cruz to win. If Cruz complains, tell him to check out Dan Patrick's "debate." Patrick is "debating" Geraldo Rivera. I'm not making that up. The absurdity of it all is a slap in the face of all Texans.

    I think Beto's team wants to have some say so on the debate schedule and format. It sounds like one of the Beto camp requests is that some of the debates are in townhall format. I'd guess that after a few months of almost continual townhalls that they feel very comfortable in the format. I'd also guess that Beto's camp believes he is more likable and that format would benefit that (and him) versus the wooden stand behind a lectern of traditional debates. Another ask was that there be a debate in El Paso (Beto's home town) and that a debate happen closer to the election.

    I like my candidates with some street cred, I will not however, support Canadian carpetbaggers.

    LOL, your smear is a bit old, doncha think? btw, both charges were dropped. Of course, this has already been discussed previously. You'd have fresher smear material if you attacked Beto's mom...

    Ted Cruz let a grown man call his wife ugly and his dad a murderer. Actually he didn't just let him, he campaigned for him after.
