I haven't listened and probably won't but maybe audio will help people understand what these events are like, versus just the standard facebook pics of the shooter and the victims, as if they themselves were just game contestants who lost.

I listened and wish I had not. Frightening and sad.

My problem is that nothing seems to have been done (or whatever has been done is not working) to mitigate these unfortunate occurrences, and instead they seem to be occurring with increasing frequency.

The republicans claim that stricter gun laws would not fix it, but despite having full control of government at Federal level and in many states, they are yet to do anything to stop it.

For all those who have the means and opportunity to make a significant difference but choose to turn a blind eye to the problem for their personal gain, I hope this disaster comes calling on their loved ones soon enough

Gun violence and violent crimes in general are way down in the US. Also stop looking for government to protect you and take protection of you and yours in your own hands. If someone shows up and wants to kill you, no cop will come in time. Finally, Democrats have applied their gun laws all over. It never does anything.

It's the government's job to protect its citizens.

States with most gun deaths by population, all liberal bastions.

    1) Alaska
    2) Alabama
    3) Louisiana
    4) Mississippi
    5) Oklahoma
    6) Montana
    7) Missouri
    8) New Mexico
    9) Arkansas
    10) South Carolina

You would think they would have had better security than that. I haven't read up on this yet but was there no security at the doors checking those who went in?

Now that I've read up on it, apparently this was a Madden gamer who was in the tournament and lost that was seeking revenge on top players. One of the people who died at the scene was a Madden gamer named Trueboy which is one of the 2 guys playing during the video above. After shooting as many people as possible, the shooter committed suicide, which makes me wonder if there was any armed security at all to begin with.

We really need to do something about these soft targets.

Are you saying you don't know what "soft targets" are? They are large gatherings of people with little to no security making them vulnerable to attack.

Well, yes. I didn't know the definition of "soft targets."

I apparently misread your two posts and thought you were somehow blaming the event and maybe even the attendees rather than the killer. I thought you were saying the attendees were the soft targets and hence partially at fault.

Maybe you are blaming the event for failing to have enough security, but the way i read it, it almost seemed like a parody aimed at provoking a response. Which surprised me given what I have read of your posts.

    My bad.

Far right and Russian bots going crazy on twitter right now to deflect news of suspect being identified as 24 year old white male.

Have they said anything about who the shooter was other than white male? I was talking to my mom over the phone and she said it was one of the gamers who lost. Don't know if that's true and don't know where she got that from.

Honestly I'm not blaming anyone but the guy who did it. The natural question after something like this happens is how could it have been prevented. In this instance, it would have been pretty easy to prevent with just basic security ensuring that there was some armed security guards and that people weren't bringing guns into the event. They do this at sporting events and that's why they aren't often targeted. Even in Paris a few years back when heavily armed terrorists targeted a soccer match. They never made it inside and instead headed to a theater where they were able to have a shooting spree environment due to it being a soft target. They killed 89 inside the theater.

Personally I feel like we need to limit the soft targets in order to prevent shootings like this from being worse than they have to be.
