Republican Senator from Tenn Bob Corker unveils bill to check Trump’s tariff authority, rebuffing a personal request from DJ Trump

Corker’s bill, w nine Democratic and Republican co-sponsors, would require congressional approval when the president enacts tariffs under the auspices of national security, as Trump did last week in imposing levies on aluminum and steel imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union.

Trump attempted Wednesday to stave off the legislation. Corker, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the president called him Wednesday morning and asked him not to file the bill.

But Corker rebuffed Trump’s request, saying “ ‘I’m a United States senator, and I have responsibilities,
and I’m going to continue to carry them out,’ ”

Corker said that during a lengthy conversation, the president argued that the senator’s bill would limit Trump’s negotiating authority.

“He’s obviously not pleased with this effort,”

"We had a heartfelt conversation. Finally, a lot of time had gone by, and I had other meetings.”

    Translation,
they were yelling at each other over the phone, then Corker hung up on the dotard.

If this tweet from Macron to Trump is any indication

The American President may not mind being isolated, but neither do we mind signing
a 6 country agreement if need be. Because these 6 countries represent values,
they represent an economic market which has the weight of history behind it
and which is now a true international force. President Trump knows that https://t.co/UA86fcjozs

    — Emmanuel Macron (@EmmanuelMacron) June 7, 2018

more fingers will be pointed at Trump, at least symbolically, at the G7 meeting, which begins Friday, 8 Jun 2018, in Quebec, Canada

A federal judge on Tuesday approved the blockbuster merger between AT&T and Time Warner (who owns CNN), rebuffing the Trump admin's effort to block the $85.4 billion deal

historically, the Gov routinely approves vertical mergers, in which the two companies are in related industries but do not produce competing products. Trump's admin broke convention and block this proposed merger.

Presidential politics clouded the merger from almost the moment it was announced. Trump, while still a candidate, said he would block the deal “because it’s too much concentration of power in the hands of too few.” (which is false, as the two co do not produce competing products.

Trump's comments and his repeated criticism of CNN, which is owned by Time Warner’s unit Turner Broadcasting, raised speculation that Mr. Trump had pushed d the Justice Department to block the deal.

once again, rule of law prevails, another resounding FU to the dotard,

N.Y. Attorney General Sues Trump Foundation, DJ Trump & His 3 Oldest Children,
    Over Self-Dealing

The lawsuit accuses the charity and the Trump family of sweeping violations of campaign finance laws, self-dealing and illegal coordination with the presidential campaign.

The lawsuit, which seeks to dissolve the foundation and bar President Trump and three of his children from serving on nonprofit organizations, was an extraordinary rebuke of a sitting president. The attorney general also sent referral letters to the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Election Commission for possible further action, adding to Mr. Trump’s extensive legal problems.

While such foundations are supposed to be devoted to charitable activities, the complaint asserts that Mr. Trump’s
wasoften used to curry political favor or settle legal claims against his various businesses, and
even spent $10,000on a portrait of Mr. Trump that was hung at
    one of his golf clubs.

The $10,000 portrait was one of several examples of the foundation being used in
“at least five self-dealing transactions,” , violating tax regulations that prohibit using nonprofit charities for private interests.

    another eg of self-dealing;

The foundation also paid $5,000 to one organization for “promotional space featuring Trump International Hotels,” and another $32,000 to satisfy a pledge made by a privately held entity controlled by Mr. Trump to a charitable land trust.

What a dumb-ass. I keep saying it, but just wait until America faces a smart would-be dictator, from either the left or the right. I think we'll survive Two Scoops, or I hope so, but the next one...

After the much anticipated meeting between Traitor Trump and his handler in Helsinki, Fin, Former CIA Director Brennan wrote this op / ed

President Trump's behavior at his joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday was
"nothing short of treasonous." Trump is "giving aid and comfort to the enemy"

~ one month later, Traitor Trump revoked Brennan's security clearance.

On the next day, Admiral William H. McRaven, the current UT Chancellor, who led the SEAL team that brought down Osama bin Laden, challenged Traitor Trump, writing this op / ed for WaPo

    Dear Mr. President:

Former CIA director John Brennan, whose security clearance you revoked on Wednesday, is one of the finest public servants I have ever known. Few Americans have done more to protect this country than John. He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who don’t know him.

Therefore, I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency.

Like most Americans, I had hoped that when you became president, you would rise to the occasion and become the leader this great nation needs.

A good leader tries to embody the best qualities of his or her organization. A good leader sets the example for others to follow. A good leader always puts the welfare of others before himself or herself.

Your leadership, however, has shown little of these qualities. Through your actions, you have embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and, worst of all, divided us as a nation.

If you think for a moment that your McCarthy-era tactics will suppress the voices of criticism, you are sadly mistaken. The criticism will continue until you become the leader we prayed you would be

    fwiw,

on 2 May 2011, while Colonel McRaven was leading his SEAL team to capture bin laden, and
Brennan, along w team Obama, was watching from the Situation Room,
Trump was filming an episode of the Apprentice, a reality TV show

Trump will thank McRaven for his service, then fire him and then revoke his security clearance. Because reasons ... but mostly because Trump is a dick.

    http://theglitteringeye.com/question-8/

    here's the full text:

First, read this jeremiad from Adm. Will H. McRaven at the Washington Post. In light of these elements of the UCMJ:

Retired military officers are subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) under Article 2 of the UCMJ, which extends the jurisdiction of military law to “Retired members of a regular component of the armed forces who are entitled to pay.” “Retirees are subject to the UCMJ and may be tried by court-martial for violations … that occurred … while in a retired status.

    and this from Article 88:

contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Homeland Security, or the Governor or legislature of any State.

    should Adm. McRaven be courtmartialed?

What should be clear from those two passages is that military officers including retired military officers must tread very lightly when becoming involved in politics. IMO Adm. McRaven has overstepped. Whether you like Trump or not, disapprove of what he is doing or not, or are afraid of what he may do does not justify throwing everything else overboard. If it does what the heck are you defending?

    thank you for corroborating

if what you have posted is true, it only underscores the contempt that Col McRaven,
a military hero who led his SEAL team to bring down bin Laden, has for Traitor Trump.
but i don't need the help

So, they permanently lose their right to free speech? That's incredible. Re: your last question, I would think that if retired military officers genuinely believed a high ranking governmental official was acting way out of bounds such that it put the country at risk, they would be defending the country by speaking up.

is making up lies, OT is stupid enough to buy in to his lies.
    • in 2009, a retired AF Colonel, Greg Hollister, filed a lawsuit against Barry "Soetero" (the surname of Obama's step-father) challenging his qualification for POTUS on the grounds that he was born in the US
    • in 2013, former SEAL Larry Bailey publicly questioned Obama's citizenship

nothing happened to these former military who had publicized their contempt for the POTUS

Well said. I hope trump attempts to "court martial" Adm. McRaven. I really do. The Supreme Court would toss "Article 88" into the dumpster, where it belongs. Even a Supreme Court as conservative as this one would never support it, in my humble opinion. My guess is that the only reason "Article 88" is still on the books (assuming it isn't entirely dreamed up by whoever originally posted about the thing) is that "Article 88" has never been legally challenged by a retired veteran charged under the "Article." I've been putting it in quotes because it is such an egregious violation of the Constitution and our freedom of speech that I find it hard to believe that such an "article" exists.

Article 88 has been applied to one retired military member in the entire history of the UCMJ, and that was against a US Army retired musician...who was acquitted.

More info from a 2016 blog dealing with Gen Flynn and Gen Allen: https://www.lawfareblog.com/law-retired-military-officers-and-political-endorsements-primer

Basically, the call to prosecute would have to come from the Assistant Secretary of the Navy and would probably only happen if Trump pushed the issue.

My significant finger for President Trump is still a thumbs up.

The socialists on the board are happy about the Manafort and Cohen cases, but the rest of us might not be so happy about the possible collapse of the stock market, the return to Obama's 1% to 2% economic growth, open borders that eventually will lead to the collapse of Social Security, Medicare, the school systems and most of the ideals that make America America. Thank God I am very old. Seeing the end of our children's futures makes my brown eyes blue.
