New Showtime series featuring Paul Giamatti [Sideways] as a US Attorney going after Billionaire Hedge Fund Runner Damian Lewis [Homeland]. Broke Showtime's record for a premier last week: http://deadline.com/2016/01/billions-scores-record-opening-for-showtime-1201686267/ I didn't really know if I would be interested in this show due to the subject matter seeming a little dense, but it really did deliver. Giamatti has always been a touch overboard with his biting-the-air delivery, but it seems to work well in this role. Damian Lewis is also superb as billionaire Bobby "Axe" Axelrod, whose financial transgressions and "**** you" money make him the supposed villain, but his "humble roots" beginnings also doesn't make him inherently hateable. The dialog is pretty crisp and it isn't as dense as I thought it might be. Definitely going to keep watching if the series keeps up the momentum brought in the first two episodes. It has kind of a part House of Cards, part House of Lies feel to it.
I enjoyed it and will keep watching... always a sucker for the subject matter as it hits close to my line of work. plus Koppelman and Ross Sorkin combined with Giamatti and Lewis. hell yes. Also - really want to know where Axe gets those crisp zip-up pull overs. i've had some custom made and they don't look quite up to that quality.
What I'm struggling with is, after Brody left Homeland, how did he change his name and make his millions? Sorry, billions. Aside from that, it's a good show. I didn't think Homeland could have a successful spin off.
I like Damian Lewis I liked him in DreamCatcher I liked him in Life I like Giamatti Don't have Show time but . . might check it out Rocket River
Great show. I've seen the first two episodes so far. They had an interview with the creators of this show on the Altucher Podcast recently. http://www.jamesaltucher.com/2016/0...n-how-to-get-inside-the-mind-of-billionaires/
Just started watching. 3 shows in out of the 5 and it's been great so far. Really surprised. Thought it was going to be Ballers or something.
I gave it a shot, and I was sold in the first episode. Finally, I can watch Paul Giamatti get pissed on by a dominatrix.
Just started this series. I liked Damian Lewis in LIFE I liked him in DreamCatcher I might have to check out more of his Filmology Rocket River
http://waitwith.us/billions-season-2-7179/ I just finished it. it was very intriguing and drew me in . So I had to see when Season 2 was coming Rocket River
OK. . . .So I finally got back to this show. Watching Season 2 Trying to figure out what is up between Bobby and Wendy Rocket River
They haven't really explored that, but it seems that Axelrod has been together/married with Malin Akerman since they were very young. I think we're meant to believe Axe and Wendy are just really close colleagues who like, trust, and respect each other and get off on the sexual tension/power dynamic between them. Their relationship all seems to revolve around being super awesome at their jobs. Obviously, Wendy has something else entirely going with Chuck.
I liked both shows... but I also think they're very different. Billions is more of a realistic depiction of wall st. hedge fund vs. the gov't.... with plenty of drama and story-telling built in. Succession is simply about a messed up rich family... but on a comedy level, its actually quite high.
Officially Caught Up. Ready for Season 4 Kind of figured the endings were going the way they went but some how it was still satisfying in that they happened in good ways that felt like they should have happened (I hated how in Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy at the end they just seemed to win because. . .they were meant to win . . . hollow victories the last few seasons) This could go that way but not this season So . . .I think Season 4 is later this month or early Sept.
