But why doh thats not what he does best. Wouldnt getting switched on curry be the easiest thing in the world. One u tired curry out n to chance he gets into foul troubles. The formula is easy attack curry with cp3 harden gordan melo. All game long. Thats something the warrior will have to adjust to u. They dont like doing that
What? You aren't following. How do you get switched? You run a PnR. In this case, our HOF PGs are dribbling, and give you the ball if the switch favors you over them. That is how we will ISO Melo via a pick with a dribbler, also known as a Pick n Pop. Wow, didn't realize this was so hard to explain. Also, this is what our offense does best. We PnPop with Ryno and Ariza, but they can't drive ... so they head fake and pass back timidly ... Melo can drive or ISO....or shoot three. Whether you find this as some kind of argument against ISO (which it isn't) we WILL play him this way. Remember this day when I told you, and you can say to yourself then, "wow, hp is the real deal."
Thats obvious doh. Everyone know how u gwt a switch lmao. It was kind of implied he would be doing pick n pop. Wjich means ur shoting a jumper. Its no way around that wording. Pick n pop u shot the jump not drive. That would just be a switch. Yes i get would u saying but if im the opposing team im fine with melo popping thats not what he does best.
I dont think u know what a pick n pop means. Pick n pop is literally that, just like pick n roll. Nice try doh buddy i know every in detail of basketball lol. Thats just a pick to get the switch with melo(ariza did this many time, with no roll or pop. Simply just a screen to force the switch). Those are all 3 different terms in basketball that means three different things. Look it up
It really doesn't matter what we all think Melo should or shouldn't come off the bench. Last time I check DMA is the head coach and none of us are. Melo will have to demonstrate during training, pre season, and reg season on whether he belongs on the bench or not. Not us debating. We have NO CONTROL!
I don't think any of us feel we can actually influence the team's decision as to whether Melo starts or not. Just a friendly discussion amongst fans as to what the better option would be.
Who else do we start at the 3/4? I thought PJ would already take one of those roles. This conversation changes if Anderson is moved for a wing.
I still haven't gotten an answer to the question . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . WHO SHOULD START IN FRONT OF MELO???? Until you can give me a good answer . .. this whole thread is moot! Rocket River
The question isn't whether Melo will come off the bench or start. The real question is whether Melo will come off the bench or stay on the bench.
PJ Tucker is best suited as a 4. That is how the Rockets can be versatile. He can swing to the 5 or 3 then. Melo is best suited off the bench. Getting Melo in isolation on anyone shouldn't be a goal of the offense. Melo can isolate, but isn't an efficient offensive player, as you can see on NBA.com by his shooting percentages and points per possession when isolated. Melo's effectiveness as an offensive player will be highest on those nights when he's "on". At a basic level, that describes a bench player. Someone who can get hot... but might not always be so. Moreover, coming off the bench will put him against inferior players. I truly believe Melo could have a refreshed, revitalized late career as an off the bench 25 mpg guy. But he has to accept that mentally. I suspect at the moment Ennis would be the starter. Role wise, he replicates what Ariza brought, albeit not as prolifically as Ariza has in the past so far.
The Pick n Pop is not just for shooting a jumper, anymore than it is designed only for a drive. Since it threatens both the dribbler and the picker, teams like GSW will switch it. When they switch Curry on Melo, and Green on Paul, then Paul passes to Melo for a ... .... wait for it ... can u guess? ... Paul passes to Melo for an Isolation on Curry. Look, it's very simple, Melo does qualify as a Stretch 4. If you don't think so, then I'll bow out of the conversation. Thus, MDA will use him in his Stretch-4 plays. And Melo brings options to the table that Ariza/Ryno don't. Melo has proven he can catch and shoot 3s (Olympic Melo), proven ISO, and proven drives...the high PnR that Ariza and Ryno run with Harden (also named by Rudy Tomjanovich as 24-High, and others as Fist-Up Houston) will be run with Harden/Paul and Melo. If you switch it, you are toast because Melo will kill a guard in ISO. If you trap it, Melo will shoot the 3 or drive before you close-out, unlike slow-mo, head-faking Ryno and no-drive Ariza could do. If you try to play it honest, Harden will do a keeper. If you send help, Paul/Harden will find the open man. again, mark this exchange in your mind. When you see MDA put Harden/Paul in pick n roll with Melo for the purpose of isolating a switching defense, you can say, "wow, hp knows his playbook."
Melo off the bench makes the most sense since you want super high usage Harden on with Capela as much as possible (drive and alley oop) and lower usage CP3 with higher usage wing scorers with a green light (EGo, Melo). I'd probably give Ryno another crack at starting at PF sometimes, and otherwise use Ennis at the 3 and PJ at the 4 most of the time. Ariza was a low usage 3/D SF so Ennis is pretty interchangeable with him there. What really matters is who finishes games, and depending on game flow we can finish with quite a few diverse lineups, with either PJ, Melo or Ennis finishing most of the time.
