Well, not to delve into the social aspects of it too much, but they probably didn't want the inevitable backlash of casting a heterosexual woman for a character who is established to be homosexual. It's different if Batwoman, at the start of the series, was heterosexual but eventually realizes that she's homosexual. No one would bat an eye if a straight actor was cast in that role.
If you want to talk about source material being the inspiration (and why wouldn't you, since that's literally the origin), Kate Kane isn't some curvy / thicc / buff midwestern woman. I think Caity Lotz (White Canary on Legends of Tomorrow) is about as "thicc" as you're going to see, on a television medium. I mean, of these two pictures, which would you be more interested in watching, for an episode each week? Spoiler'd for size: Spoiler vs Spoiler
Rose is no where close to the first pic, who has curves of her own. Jolie in tomb raider was curvy and strong looking, not in the midwestern way, but she could hold her own. Both vikander and rose moreso are anemic and no where close to being realistic for a superhero movie. There are actresses who look like women who can have kids (a sin in hollywood) , are in good shape, but never get backing... It's supposed to make girls think skinny is strong because 14 yr old boys do the wohaa to it. It's too much hypocrisy to constantly talk about female empowerment to sell movies then go with the same malnourished choices. I wouldnt get bothered by poor looks or acting ability , but the whole heroin chic thing is predictable and pathetic.
saw her on jimmy fallon the other night. no idea who she is. i did see JW2, but it didn't stick with me a ton.
I mean, Rose seems like she'd be able to bulk up for the role. Gal Gadot was very skinny in the F&F movies, so when she was cast as Wonder Woman, everyone criticized the casting because she was going to be a twig portraying a battle-tested warrior. But WW is probably the best live-action DC movie since The Dark Knight trilogy, due in part to Gadot portraying WW very well. I'll adopt a "wait-and-see" approach for Rose's portrayal. I don't think it's going to be as outrageous as you might expect, but I could be wrong.
Here's the most memorable John Wick scene,,,the hall of mirrors shoot-out,,,,Ruby looks tiny, but she's 5'7. Keanu is 6'1, but it still looks like he's towering over her. Definitely has action fighting experience (she did a Vin Diesel movie too), but playing a mute is a bad sign for acting ability. Nice butt.
Hey if you're pro equality , feminists You'll give a full figured woman a shot There are plenty who can act and look great Instead of the crackhead look The studios know the formula and it will sell, so all I can do is point out the obvious like internet users tend to do. Changes have been made
There's a switch that flips in my brain when I determine that a woman is a lesbian. I treat them like a guy because there's no sort of man/woman interplay anymore. I guess I would call RR 'handsome' at this point because there's not much effeminate about her.
So if you're skinny, you now have a crackhead look? Lol. I'm curious - who would you cast as Batwoman?
Not true lesbians. It would just never happen and I know it, on a deep subconscious level. I'm not talking about 'bisexual' girls in college who experiment with other girls.
Jack Whitehall faces FAN FURY after being cast as Disney’s FIRST openly gay character this rule of heteros not being allowed to play homosexuals seems less tolerant, not more. Also does it apply the other way? Can homosexuals play heteros?
