I used to trot out the “it requires more strategy” bit but I flat out don’t miss it one iota. That’s like making your QB play defense. No one wants to see it and these guys are getting paid why too much to risk them getting hurt doing something they have no business doing anyways.
It doesn’t require more strategy. It’s not hard to double switch or pinch-hit for a pitcher. It’s not hard to tell a pitcher to try and bunt. It’s not hard to make a lineup where the pitcher usually bats last and there is no DH.
I mean I wasn’t looking for an argument but you can definitely make a case that deciding whether or not to pull a pitcher for a PH in a tightly contested game adds an element of strategy that you simply don’t encounter in the AL. But honestly I don’t care. It makes for a significantly worse and less entertaining product on the field.
Reed has yet to be given a fair chance. But as a former Davis fan, I think he's overstayed his welcome. Same with White. Stassi needs to go, too. Reed deserves another chance, though, and he's a lefty, which we're weak on.
