Yes....screaming at someone or pushing someone is 1000 times better them beating someone close to death.....which he didn't do or else would have been charged with assault causing bodily harm or aggravated assault. Difference is one charge is worthy of a second chance..... the other charge is worthy of casting individual out of society. Is simple assault bad? Of course it is! That's why he got suspended but he has served his time. Time to play ball. You don't want to even give this 22 year old a chance based on what? He hasn't had his court day yet. You don't want to believe MLB or the Astros. Remember...MLB says he is free to play ball. Let this play out... I hope your wrong. If your right.... then yes sue MLB for even allowing this guy to play ball again and fire those in the Blue Jays organization for using him as trade bait and fire the Astros brass for putting him on the team.
Some say they have a problem with this trade. Others say they don't have a problem with the trade. Some explain why they have a problem. Others say why they don't have a problem. It really should end there but then we add this: Others jump on some for having a problem with it and some jump on others for not having a problem with it.
You are mixing a lot of arguments or issues. What are you really upset about? Most fans say we overpay when we make trades, you're upset because we underpaid? Luhnow has made it clear he has been following Osuna's career since his debut in Mexico and has unsuccessfully tried to trade for him last year. TOR knows our interest in him is legit. I read somewhere that the company that owns the Blu Jays is a public one, so the leadership figured it would be hard to justify keeping Osuna with the negative public perception. All these factored in to their decision to trade Osuna (before the case was resolved) to the Astros even if the package they got was significantly less than what Astros offered last year. Not all HOU fans dislike the deal. The goodwill we earned is real and will not dissipate that quickly. We need to stay relevant though and that means we need to remain competitive. Osuna needs to perform well also so he will not invite continue to feed the media circus. Imagine the pressure the kid is in, and he's really just a kid. I hope Hinch gives him enough time to get mentally prepared for his debut with us.
I didn't plan on responding...but its frustrating watching you not get what @CinematicFusion is saying. First simple assault doesn't mean what you think it means...….. here: Assault (s. 266) Simple or common assault is one of the most common and least serious form of assault charge in Canada. This type refers to assaults where no weapon is used and no bodily harm is caused to the victim. https://ericksonlaw.ca/different-types-assault-charges-canada/ It says NO bodily harm. Not some or minor...but NO bodily harm, I love how everyone is talking like they know what happened when literally NO ONE that actually knows is talking yet. Odds are it was something exactly like what CF said. He pushed her, threatened her, threw something at her...None of it good or acceptable. But not what you are trying to label as fact (which once again is hilarious seeing as no one knows). If it was what I just described I think its clear he deserves a second chance...with even a slight slip up resulting in a permeant ban. Also, in case it turns out that he did physically attack her like hit her or punch her repeatedly etc... then yes your points are correct and we should not have traded for him and we should hold the management accountable. The point is based on what WE ACTUALLY KNOW. He did not inflict ANY physical harm. If that changes then our view on that should change. If she releases a statement, or provides other evidence, or the trial says otherwise then we can handle it exactly as you are suggesting. But until then the logical and reasonable reaction is to assume he served his time for the level of crime he committed. We await his trial and then go from there. But as of now what is and has happened is perfectly reasonable based on WHAT WE KNOW. Im not sure if I was clear enough here...………………...
Then MLB should kick them all out of baseball and be done with it. If the crime fits the simple assault charges in Canada.... kick them all out. Be easier that way.
What makes Osuna so different from Chapman, Torres, Familia, Wright--MLB players also suspended for DV but now currently playing for their teams right now. DV is always wrong, a criminal act even, and the threat of escalation once someone raises a hand on another is always there, but the solution is lots of counseling and understanding your triggers. You won't change an abuser simply by putting him out of a job, that would even escalate his frustration and anger.
Don't complain about the Astros then. Complain to the MLB and the MLBPA. What kind of moral world do you live in--all black and white, no space for compassion?
This is a good thing. It means the Astros are smart. It means we'll have a great closer. You guys have shown plenty of faux rage. Time to move on Osuna is an Astro.
Not to speak for @Hey Now! but I believe only one of those guys was traded at a lower value DURING suspension.
We don't actually know any of that. People get charged with lesser crimes than they committed for all sorts of reasons - lack of cooperating witnesses, likelihood of winning a case, adding more charges later, past history, cooperating defendant, etc. But none of that tells us what actually happened. For all we know, he did beat her up but she wouldn't admit to it, so they couldn't charge him with that. It's funny that you keep posting that we should be wary of media speculation and lack of facts, and then you keep repeatedly posting what some random media attorney said and treating it as the be-all, end-all of facts. She's speculating the same way anyone else is.
1.We know he was charged with simple assault in Canada 2. We know the definition of simple assault in Canada 3. We know what a Attorney said based on her experience dealing with simple assault cases in Canada. That is what I’m looking at. That’s where my focus is.
Yeah we aren’t going to agree on the concept that it is worse that the Astros paid less in assets than they would have, had he not been charged with assault. I find it completely irrelevant because it doesn’t change what Osuna did or didn’t do. Just a difference of opinion.
Or Fans can just stop being hypocritical and get over awful humans playing for their teams. Just stop defending them wearing the cloth of "second chances", "innocent until proven guilty". I don't watch sports to root for good guys, I root for winners. If I cared about the moral compass of my team I'd root for BYU or some ****.
That does not mean, "screaming at someone or pushing someone" is good. You're rationalizing criminal behavior. This isn't about second chances - but I will, again, make note: if his offense is as minor as you so dearly hope it is, he wouldn't need a *second* chance.
Nothing. What's your point? WHAT?!?!?!!!! And, apparently, pitching in high-leverage postseason situations........
“Sanctimonious high horse” haha... domestic violence is a big deal and you can tell by the way our players have responded that it isn’t something that they’re going to simply let slide. Of course nowhere did I say anything about not giving him a second chance but you sure jumped to that conclusion quickly. All I said was that this move undoubtedly casts our team in a more negative light and that the move is simply disappointing to a degree.
I'm going to type slowly because I'm kind of tired of making the same point: stop rationalizing assault because it's the "good" kind of assault. A black eye or a broken arm are not required for this to have long-term ramifications on the victim. He was suspended 75 games. Neither he, nor one of the most powerful unions in America, protested the suspension. He lost $~2.65MM and accepted potentially irreparable damage to his reputation, which will almost certainly impact his future earnings. You're arguing it's not *that* bad yet can't answer why he and his union wouldn't fight it. Would you have fought it? He's arbitration-eligible next year - how do you think that hearing's going to go?... He is readily accepting a loss of *millions* of dollars but you want to argue it's probably over minor infractions?... Go back and read the link you provided; notice this? How would you feel if he never hit her but (repeatedly) put a gun to her head and *threatened* her?........ You, and others, are hiding behind this idea that abuse means bodily harm. IT. DOES. NOT.
