Rondon was such a good signing. Man. He went through Machado, Turner, Grandal, Bellinger with ease. 2.27 ERA 2.19 FIP 11.1 K/9. This looks like a dominant playoff bullpen: Pressly McHugh Rondon Osuna
I was thinking going into this series that we needed very good pitching to win games. JV did just that. Lance, your up.
I wonder if they’ll keep starting Maldonado with JV? Seemed to be his best performance in awhile since consistently starting with Stassi. Surely Maldonado had something to do with it? Bats as a whole were making good contact yesterday so hopefully it continues
I catch myself seeing the name "Verlander" on the back of his jersey while he stands on the bump and simply can't believe he pitches for the Astros.
Don't forget 1 of Morton or McCullers(most likely McCullers). One of them won't make the starting rotation. I guess you can argue both could make it and bump Keuchel but Keuchel is pitching well these days and I can't see him being effective out of the pen while we know what McCullers and Morton did last year.
Yeah, he's been a really good addition to the bully. I wonder if, outside of JV and Cole, the Astros are planning to do quasi-tandem starts in the playoffs with the 4 out of the other five "starters," DK, LMJR, CFM, McHugh, and Peacock? You'd essentially try to go through the lineup twice with the starter and then based on how the game is going bring in another starter to get you to the closer. I think it'll be interesting to see how they manage the arms and try to steal innings away from the likes of Devo, Harris, and Sipp. I'm guessing the Yankees are working backwards from their closers. Red Sox are hoping Sale, Price, and Porcello can start and go deep to hand it to their back-end.
for those that don't speak awesomeness, Dallas is saying: "I turned to Verlander and told him, you getting some p*ssy tonight. I then looked at the heavens and said we will be back here in late October-early November to take the second world series championship. We got Jake back. Mad respect, Luhnow. "
Verlander was electric, that is some beautiful stuff. I doubt many of you had the opportunity to see Sandy Koufax pitch. Pull up some old film and enjoy.
For reasons unknown, Astros struggle more at home than road. Seems both our hitting and pitching is affected.
Cole, hopefully. But Verlander, um, well how would you feel if Berkman had a great 2013, then signed a 3-yr deal with the Rangers and went in the HoF with them after 4 solid seasons to lift his numbers over the top? He'd have to pitch as long as Nolan Ryan (and spend all those remaining years in HOU) for it even to become a question. But Gerrit Cole, I want us to sign him long-term. No, it will NOT be cheap, but make him part of the core. He has the filthiest stuff in all the big leagues when he's on it, his fastball touches triple digits at times, he has good command, and breaking balls are filthy. Make sure he has an Astros hat in the Hall.
Is Bregman going for some New Kids on the Block combined with One Direction look? Or, is he just turning into a surfer-wannabe kook brah no?
