I actually think Melo will be 2nd option. CP3 is the one actually taking the backseat and be 3rd/4th option after Harden/Melo/Gordon

you have no business being around basketball if you have harden and cp3 and they are not the focal points as options first. it will always start with them.

You’re kidding yourself if you don’t think he’s going to start and play a good amount of minutes.

Has there ever been another player with more minutes/roster fit threads who wasn't actually a Rocket?

People are really jumping the gun this summer.

I wonder if they'll do a big press conference with Melo and treat him like a star. IF he signs, the conversation during the presser and training camp will be much more telling than infinite speculation by hungry armchair GMs.

    I don't know if he's a starter or not but I know he's definitely not a bench...

...but seriously, of course he is a starter. So is Eric Gordon and Lou Williams on most teams. Carmelo is good enough to be a starter in this league. The question is if this team is better suited starting the game with him on the bench

Exactly plus basketball depends alot on size. Melo has it cp3 does not. Its nothing he can do about that. Cp3 is a better player.

He will play almost 100% at the 4 and 5 for us, nothing to worry about there

26 mpg...bump it up to 30 if he’s having a good night offensively...bump it down to 20 if he’s playing below average

He will get some burn during the regular season but he is all but unplayable against GSW in the playoffs. He will sit on the bench where Ryan Anderson did because of his defensive inability.

I don't even think it's about the regular season minutes.

The whole reason we got him was for the post season. A veteran scorer.

I think it depends on who we get for Anderson (assuming we can trade him )

If we land batum / Williams / mkg / bazemore .... I think any of those 4 could and maybe should start over him . The question then becomes , does Melo start over PJ .... to which I think the answer is no .

There is also the option to start Paul / Gordon / harden with harden defending the 3 (which he does well ) and then melo coming in early .

I think if the melo moves goes through and we get a viable rotation player( or two !) for Anderson (fingers crossed ).... then this will be a very interesting season for MDA in terms of managing minutes . In particular, I think most of us would also like to see hartenstein and Melton get mind ( at least in the regular season ) . Along with green and MCW we could run an extraordinarily deep rotation ( including sitting guys for rest for games at a time maybe )

Paul / Gordon/ (MCW and Melton)
    Harden / Gordon / green /
    Melo / ( trade acquisition(s) )
    Pj / trade
    Clint / hartenstein

Our front court depth is a bit weak , but if we can swing Ryan for a playable forward then we are fine. I'm probably forgetting someone too. Nene ?? Qi ??

Melo is still not a Rockets player.

    Discussion on this is meaningless.

Start, play 30 minutes, take games off, pay about 60 games, be healthy and primed for a playoff run.

Same thing for Harden, Paul, Tucker, and Gordon. Give them games off. Play 65-70 games max. 30-35 minutes. Be in tip shape, healthy, fresh, and tuned up fit playoff run.

His playing time should be as a starter. He starts and gets the first sets where he finishes for the first 3 minuets or till the defense starts to honor him >> opening up the rest of the offense (different look for us). Would like 8+ points from him in first quarter. His role is more like “kindling”. If this works we should be playing with a 10+ point lead all the way through the game. Half way through the 4th quarter the benches clear thus saving our legs for the playoffs. Melo helps get the younger players court time because we will blow out most of the league.

Melo plays less then 20 minuets a game. But they are well placed minuets >> he is our starter and key to what we do. Because of Me7o we are never playing catchup and develop our youth.

He starts but plays conservative minutes unless proven other wise. He sits when paul sits and returns to the game when paul is on the floor or depending on certain matchups. I still think he can recapture some of that magic, he just needs to work his way to it again. Years in NY and a year of clueless donovan takes time to shake off!
