    This post sounds so whiny...

Your "one free space" is still just as it was before this trade happened with the exception of this one thread. Settle down...

Nah, keep thinking that way. Don't be controlled by daily outrage from your media, us vs. them mentality, lib vs conservative - that **** is designed for basic, low level, dog and pony show for worker-ant-level thinkers consumption.

I think that was my main point. Wasn't trying to whine, just point out that it doesnt have to be A vs B, white vs black.. Hate seeing the media just split ppl up sometimes.

A good reason for it is that with social media platforms, people who shouldn't have megaphones now have megaphones. And they use it ALL THE TIME.

I miss the old days when people wouldn't talk about their political affiliations. They'd sooner tell you their innermost secrets before revealing to you who the voted for.

44 pages on a trade for a relief pitcher. I don't think we would gotten this many pages had the Astros traded for Trout and he arrived in Houston on a UFO.

A Lawyer’s Take: For Roberto Osuna
Good read, click above for the link.

Alison Craig, A Defense Attorney Below is an excerpt from above article. She is talking about Canadian law below.
"Given my experience, however, I can make several general observations based on what we do know. Simple assault, which is what Osuna is charged with, is the least serious assault charge there is. If significant injuries of any sort were alleged, he would have been charged with either assault causing bodily harm or aggravated assault, both of which would result in much more severe penalties. In addition, he is only charged with one count of assault rather than several, which suggests that the allegation relates to an isolated incident rather than any alleged pattern of abuse.

The conditions of Osuna’s bail require him to stay away from his home address and to refrain from contacting the complainant. I have heard several people make a rather big deal out of those conditions, suggesting that they mean the complainant is afraid of Osuna or that he is seen as an ongoing threat. If you take only one thing away from this article, please let it be this: they mean nothing of the sort."

As has been reported time and time again. The media has no clue what happened. It's all rumor and speculation. All you can go by is the facts of the case.

But, but.... what if he didn't hit her *hard*?........

He forfeited nearly $3MM in salary... how far "out of line (in some aspect)" do you have to be to willing accept a dock in pay that substantial when you have a notoriously tough-as-nails player union behind you?...... Just think about that..............

....because he wouldn't have been suspended any more.... I mean............. that's like arguing injured/not injured - what's the difference? Note, also: the deal came *before* his court case.

Name another instance of a team trading for a player serving a suspension.........

"Guys, what if his fist just *barely* grazed her? Like, barely a flesh wound? Maybe some light bleeding?.... That's cool, right?"....

He was suspended 75 games. He did not appeal the suspension.

according to a defense attorney and based on her knowledge of the charges....he didn't and might not have hit her at all. I have the link in another post.

Good read...you should check it out. I strongly believe Astros did their due diligence with this one.

Right. And what has to happen for the league to hand down the second longest DV-related suspension in its history?.......

Are you really arguing he readily accepted a significant loss of salary, playing time, as well as permanent damage to his reputation in order to.... avoid a process that would have ultimately exonerated him (assuming his innocence)? OK. Yeah, that makes perfect sense.

And why would his players' union allow what you're arguing could a merit-less suspension to happen? Do you understand the precedent it would set moving forward?

    Domestic. Violence. Is. Not. Political.

It's actually quite binary: you either condone or condemn domestic violence. Simple. There is no room for nuance or subtlety. "Yeah but" this or "yeah but" that - all of that noise is just people loudly scrambling to make themselves feels better about an objectively gross transaction.

Yeah, sports *is* supposed to be a break from a harsher reality - hell, we saw that first-hand exactly one year ago this month. So if you want to be mad at anyone, it's the Astros for brazenly (or stupidly) injecting this issue into their season and forcing their fans to reconcile with it.

You’re embarrassing yourself with this guilty until proven innocent stance.

    “He was arrested by POLICE!”
    “Second longest suspension ever!!”
    “CRAVEN!!!”

Nobody is going to dispute or fight potential DV suspensions. The players union is smart enough to leave that alone.

I’m firmly of the belief that whatever he did (and yes, he did “something”) isn’t of the magnitude that you’re suspecting by comparing his suspension to Chapman’s. Times have changed... suspension #’s have changed.

In the end, still not sure what the argument is for... he served the suspension handed down to him and now he will play. This was always going to happen.

I see lil'rick'os still at it. Good luck to all of you, you'll be done with this conversation sometime next week at the earliest.

Most fans don’t have an issue seeing this as a sports move.

You’re the one injecting all the other stuff into this.

This lawyer would agree with you based on the charges alone.
