You were the one mentioning shitty European cars. I responded with American company, that might I add, already exceeds actually almost triples the 54.5 mpg. That costs 35k and is better for the environment and the air we breathe.

Nope. The LS engines switched years ago. The Ford V8's switched in the 90's. Cast iron engines are dead dead dead.

I've never seen a block warp in my entire life. Heads of any material can warp if over heated. Blocks don't lol.

When I said we don't want them. I guess you've never been but the cars there make a Chevy Cruz look like a 64 continental. They are tiny.

Well as I mentioned the information is completely false at worst or outdated at best. The best selling vehicle in the country uses aluminum body panels. Your favorite car Tesla does as well.

It's bad info. I guess you don't know much about cars so just FYI.

Since I don't know much about cars. Educate me what weight percentage does steel make up in an average car? With new advances in AHSS making steel compositions lighter. Steel still makes a large majority of a cars construction.

The model 3 is not tiny. It is a full size sedan.

It also uses AHSS composition in it's frame actually uses more AHSS than aluminum

I do not have a problem with the standards as implemented by Obama.

It doesn't. Cars can manufacture polluting cars for other states just not sell them in California. What's your problem with that? What happened to state rights?

I swear you right wingers will throw everything you claim to hold dear if it means your side gets the "win"

the amusing thing about regulations for fuel efficiency and emmisions is that those goals are in conflict

the chemical additives and mechanical controls used to reduce emissions hurt efficiency

Often the way around this is to reduce the weight of the vehicle, making them less safe

Safety, performance, cost, efficiency, emissions; there are trade-offs to all of them, as designers and engineers and manufacturers all know. So you design/produce different types to satisfy different levels of demand in these areas.

Politicians however are dumb and presume to mandate a floor for these standards, effectively outlawing things a customer might actually want.

Emissions regulations are an area where they are on firmer ground, if a direct harm to third parties can be shown.

But idgaf if someone wants a car that only gets 2 MPG, that's their business.

Because car companies want to sell in California, it de facto allows California to set policy for everyone. Thats a federal job.

    On that we can agree.

Why? California has had its own emissions standards for years (I believe 10-12 states actually use them too). Car companies just make cars to different specifications for them. It's no different than any other product that states regulate differently. Car companies and what they want do not get to dictate government policy.

Absolutely ridiculous that the Federal Government is telling a state (which happens to be my state) that they cannot set emission standards which are more stringent than those set by the Feds. Probably not unconstitutional to do so, given that sales of automobiles manufactured outside of California is undoubtedly interstate commerce, but it certainly flies in the face of any concept of states' rights and small government that are allegedly espoused by the Republican party.
