To a certain extent I disagree here - it will ABSOLUTELY be brought up 10+ times in the playoffs, every time he pitches, when the most people are watching.

Edit: Off topic but was there more than just one tweet by Gray that was "racist"? The one I saw honestly was not that bad IMO - maybe I misread it but seemed like it was an inside joke between him and another teammate, who was black. Something along the lines where the teammate said something like "what is a frat house" and his response was "you are black". Could be totally off here as I didn't read much into it - I am curious though because it seems like there is a witch hunt going on right now and IMO that is NOTHING compared to what Josh Hader was saying.

I'm just waiting to see if some boos come from the crowd when he takes the mound. It wouldn't surprise me really. There are a lot of people who aren't happy about letting this guy make us have an image like the Cowboys or Raiders, who would pick up just about any thug just to win.

So again, you don't know exactly what he did, you just know that he was accused of doing SOMETHING.

It really isn't. It's not something like rape or murder for example, that deserve punishments that go beyond suspension. He served his suspension, the 2nd longest in league history based on what he might have done.....why is that not the end of it?

I mean, if he had a pattern of assault, that would be different, but this is essentially a one time thing that people are flipping out about and it's ridiculous. I get the desire to signal one's virtue, but haven't we had enough of that already?

Sadly, yeah, the Osuna stuff will linger. Imagine the signage...

Agreed, not like Hader comments, whatsoever. Media seems to be taking it easy on him but the fans were more outraged that he smiled in the bronx. Just goes to show you the differences in takes from city to city.

That’s because even before all of this... HE WASN’T GOOD.

Had he been effective, he would have already gotten a second chance.

If you can play, you get second chances.

There will no doubt be booing -- Percentage is the real question.

I understand the frustration by people but we don't know all the facts. I cannot see luhnow bringing him in without doing extensive research into Osuna's case. The lawyer seems to believe the case will be thrown out with a peace bond and osuna is still attending family events with the accusers family. The lawyer also keeps hammering that they are pleading not guilty. I dont know the laws in canada but this all just seems strange. I would love to know the inner details but until we do i think we all need to cool off on bashing him.

Hes going to end up getting booed by the home fans and his confidence will be ruined. Lets not forget the kid is one of the top closers in the game and a rising superstar. Lets give the kid the benefit of the doubt until we know for sure.

More reason why he was a horrible comparison.

But I don't agree that everyone will get a 2nd chance because of talent. Eric Reid and Colin Kaepernick are still free agents. Ray Rice was good but never got a second chance. Art Briles has to go to Europe to coach. I think in cases like these, public/media perception makes a huge difference. Ray Rice was still set to play until the public got to view the video. If fans were in agreement about the anthem protests Reid and CK would have jobs. If most fans/media thought Osuna was completely innocent, there would have been no outrage over the trade.

All of those players were past their prime and had already shown signs of regressing or in the case of Kapernick, just flat-out bad.

Robert Sr. taking a break from his janitorial duties to put his hands on his mom at the trailer park left poor Bobby dead inside it appears.

Eric Reid was one of the best safeties last year. And maybe he eventually gets picked up. Kaepernick (16 TDs to 4 INTs, 59%, 2200 pass and 468 rush yards in 12 games) is better than most if not all backup QBs in the league right now. Rice was just a year removed from being a pro-bowler. His last season was his first sub-1K yard season in 5 years. Many RBs have come back after just one down year. If they didn't have the negative press, they would have played much longer than they did.

NFL players go south pretty quickly. All of those players’ best days were behind them.

Also, plenty of worse human beings than Osuna have been given a second chance in football when they had talent or upside.

As soon as that possibility of greatness goes, it’s not enough to overcome the transgression.

They were still good enough to be on NFL rosters and the only reason they were not was because of the bad press and PR they would bring with them.

I agree that Osuna deserves a second chance. My point has always been that public perception would have been better if it didnt occur during his suspension. And he still has the opportunity to repair his image. And I hope he does. But the backlash the team is getting right now should be expected.

This is just you trying to "yeah but" your way out of it because guess what? None of those closers are currently serving a 75-game suspension for domestic violence. So, sure - nitpick their status, and their numbers, and whatever else makes you feel better. Bottom line is six closers (not including Osuna) were dealt; several more were rumored to be available and likely would've been traded if the price was right.

The Astros took advantage of a sickening situation and paid low for their closer because he was serving the second-longest domestic violence-related suspension in league history. Had that not been the case, Osuna would've been cost-prohibitive.

If you're OK with the move and all of its implications, cool - whatever. But to argue its a good look for the team in any way, especially under the guise of WHAT ELSE COULD THEY'VE DONE??? is just... yeah, sorry - I'm nowhere near there, obviously.
