Tucker wasn't ready. He may turn to something in the future but the team doesn't have time to develop him now. The Astros are in an actual race this year. I hate the team didn't get another bat because it's still guys playing now that shouldn't be (Davis, Marwin, etc.) but hopefully there will be a deal for another bat coming up by the end of this month.
Wow....White has looked so so solid and JD Davis has looked awful. What is JD Davis still doing on the team, much less starting?
We sent Marisnick down right when he was finally getting in an offensive groove. We have to claw wins out while depleted and Marisnick's defense and baserunning can put us in position to save a run or manufacture one. Marisnick was due for some regression and hopefully that's what June was. He's having a bad season, but if he can even get to his career numbers and give us that spark defensively and on the bases, he's an asset. Intangibles wise, dude is great too. Great energy and enthusiasum. We could use that as flat as we have looked save for last night.
True. He also was kind of shaky in the field as well. With him not really giving much on offense and defense at this point, what's the point of him being in the majors right now. It's no shame in him going back down in the minors. He just wasn't helping the club much at this point.
If there weren't injuries, he'd still be here. In fact when others come back, they're going to probably bring him back up here. The purpose of him being in the majors right now is to get adjusted. Its going to take time, whether it happens now... or next year. The team would rather give him AB's now to accelerate that process, but they can't give him time to figure it out when this many people are out.
This. It's not as much about his production as it was losing the guys we've lost. I expect they told him to get his mind and swing right over the next few weeks and that he'll be back in September.
Perhaps. If they bring Tucker back up when the lineup is at full strength it should be at the expense of guys like Marwin, Reddick, etc. Kemp is one of the team's best hitters this year and has earned the right to play most of the time.
Marwin plays because he can play the IF and the OF. Reddick is an experienced veteran who can play all 3 OF positions. Reddick can still also get a big hit. Marwin is looking more and more like last year was the fluke, but they're still going to need him to play the IF on occasion. Kemp has been great. And he likely will get more AB's, even if its at DH. But he does have significant defensive issues, and as pitchers adjust to him with more sample size, there's going to be a point of regression where he'll have to adjust back.
Necessary, but a bit surprising. Now Tucker knows what he needs to work on, and he'll be back in September. Just like Col Perez
