This team has some pretty insane chemistry and Correa makes boy scouts look like dirt bags. Just hope it doesn't tip the apple cart or split the clubhouse.
Again with the chemistry talk in regards to a freakin baseball team. I’m guessing you have no idea how these teams actually coexist. The Astros are a lot closer than most... but lets just say that not every member of the team, let alone bullpen guys, end up hanging out together. Bull[en guys may get close to other bullpen guys... we really should be concerned with if this will effect Brad Peacock and Colin McHugh’s psyche. They’re the ones who are going to be spending the majority of the time with Osuna, not Correa.
My friend - we watch the Astros because we love the team and they represent our City. We love guys like Altuve, Verlander, Springer, Bregman and Correa because they are extremely talented and what they do, have fun on the field and are exciting to watch. Adding one player with a questionable past doesn't change how many players on the Astros are so likeable and represent the City so well. Social Media is fickle and the 24 hour news cycle is real too. Social media is full of people making dramatic statements, all the way up to our President. How many true diehard Astros fans are to the point of disavowing their fandom over this?! More likely to me those aren't Astros fans in the first place. A few weeks from now, it's doubtful anyone will even remember about Osuna. If the Clubhouse accepts this guy and embraces him, that's all that matters - not the look on Social Media. Let's not forget last year the crucification of Yuli Gurriel in the WS over a stupid joke on Social Media. Or the narrative that the Dodgers lost the WS and the Astros didn't win it. The left coast media is NEVER going to paint teams from the heartland in a great light. Do you really think attendance will be down at MMP in August/September over this?
Donald trump did fire this tweet: "Under the zero tolerance policy, Osuna should have been detained at the border. Druggies, rapists, and domestic abusers are coming across the border and somebody has to stop them. Time to get smart."
All the chemistry talk is maddening. As if these guys are all best friends all the time...and one dude will somehow ruin all of this and everyone will stop being good at baseball which the last time I checked is what determines if a baseball team is good.
Jose Reyes, another deomestic abuser, was lit up in relief last night for 6 runs in 1 inning. Say it aint so.
Luhnow didn't have to Pony Express a message, he could have called all three of them on one call. He didn't have to do it but it sure as hell would have gone over better if he had done it.
You guys need to stop kidding yourself. There’s 3 scenarios here. 1) If he comes back strong and plays like an elite closer, there’s going to come a point no one will care about this ever again. It’ll be treated as a redemption story. 2) If he sucks and we lose, it’ll be a huge issue and a lot will be blamed on this. People will look back on it as “the beginning of the end” 3) if he sucks and we still win, I doubt it’ll ever be brought up again.
In the make believe fantasy land where a GM contacts all key players and then some about this, and they all told him they weren’t sure or it seemed risky (or they were leaning against it), do you think if should sway a GM’s decision making? He actually shouldn’t run things by his players. These are the guys he’s going to either trade, low-ball or negotiate with in the future. He’s not their friend. As it is, what do you think are the ramifications of him not calling every single meaningful player prior to making this move? If they want to sulk and stage a protest, I’m sure that will go over great with their branding. The only people that were affected by Luhnow not reaching out to everybody is a pocket full of very sensitive fans.
I respect your knowledge of the Astros and your fandom You are completely wrong if you think teams don’t have chemistry and that chemistry doesn’t matter though These guys spend damn near everyday together. And they aren’t segregated all the time. You see the games, they aren’t always sittin in a stadium I’m not saying a trade like this will ruin team chemistry, but if you think it doesn’t exist you don’t understand team sports well
Chemistry is a huge reason the Washington Nationals have not and will not reach their potential, bad mix Reality is somewhere between all you guys here. The sky isn’t falling on Astros team chemistry because of this deal, but thinking it doesn’t exist or isn’t important shows a lack of knowledge about how successful teams work
This is bad. A lot of people who are not baseball fans follow the stros because they are likeable. Picking up a guy like this is not a good look.
The “due diligence of the front office was unprecendented” - Luhnow I trust they know what they are getting into and hopefully the man he is know. Osuna going for a save on the road is going to be a tough job with opposing fans Not worried one bit about Osuna the player
