Interesting question. How are undocumented immigrants currently getting healthcare? Suspect they aren't, and if serious enough, they are getting it in emergency rooms... the most expensive way of delivering healthcare. And some of the undocumented immigrants are paying into Medicare and Social Security, but not getting benefits. Do undocumented immigrants get Medicare services anyway?

But why do you ask? Do you not want to consider a health care system that may benefit the large majority because of undocumented immigrants?

They are already subsidized by the government. If they go to the emergency room they have to be treated. If they are undocumented they don't have a bank account so no way for the hospital to collect. So the hospital is passing the costs right back to you.

I am a bigger fan of healthcare for all than I am for open borders.

How much do you pay per month for your healthcare? Probably too much since you b**** about Obamacare being too expensive. How much your employer contributes toward your plan? You do realize salaries are determined with cost of healthcare in mind as well right? That's how companies do business. Doubling of taxes in real terms, is hyperbole and typical Republican scare tactic talking points.

The current system is MORE EXPENSIVE for the nation than a Medicare-for-all system. For Republicans, this is more about keeping preventative care a priviledge rather than a right. Illegal immigrants and uninsured poor people will still run to the emergency room like they do now.

I bet if we cut our military budget in just half, that would pay a majority of the bill, but we gotta have the biggest balls in the world.

If you cut out all military spending so that the US simply wouldn't have a military anymore and you took that money and put it towards this stupid healthcare idea, you'd still have 2.7 trillion a year left to pay for out of the 3.2 trillion a year total cost of "free" healthcare.

Jeez, way to flop @Os Trigonum - I would not expect to see the Ocasio Triggered one and the Distinguished Gentleman from Vermont both touting the same study

given that it's actually yesterday's news it makes it even worse.

Can Americans just educate themselves and their kids on how not to be sick? Diet and lifestyle factors? Fast food and junk will cost you $ sooner rather than later. It's not rocket science. Far too many people think chronic pill popping is a way of life and the medical system is their savior. It's obviously necessary for emergencies occasional ailments, but use grandma's wisdom to help yourself out.

Living clean would be great. But you acknowledge we still need a healthcare system. So isn't it a bit beside the point? This is about the best way to structure and pay for this necessary industry.

I don't think a system that would require nearly doubling the federal spending every year is one worth much consideration though, would you agree?

I could see a compromise where they greatly expand medicare to cover the legit poor. It would be expensive as hell and I'd want deep cuts in entitlement spending to pay for it, but I think it would be acceptable. Now the quality of care wouldn't be that great, it would be similar to healthcare you might get from the VA, but it wouldn't matter if it was just for the poor. It would be about getting them access to some kind of healthcare. Perhaps allow people that aren't poor to use it at a discounted rate that would scale with means testing. It would work as a safety net, but the quality would be so poor compared to what we are used to now that people would strive to afford better care.

I think that's the best and most fair way to do it.

Everything becomes inflated as a result.

    It's a trickle up effect.

The same treatment in Europe (non immediate life threatening) is much cheaper than US, and you get higher quality care as well. The whole pharma industry relies on recurring prescriptions , r &d is geared that way.

Compare it to the NHS and the price everyone pays, I can link you to real examples if you are interested.

It is SO, SO expensive to just be in the ER for a couple days here just being monitored. Its easily the most disturbing part about living in the "richest country in the world". You have to look out for your family instead of giving in to bad choices and being a victim, and slowly the whole industries value will come down.
