I think he is also... I was catering to the audience (of one lesser poster) who thinks he's blowing too many saves and has a non-elite ERA who would have endlessly argued against him being an elite closer.

Luckily elite closer is also an above average reliever, so bases covered.

So....who will be the first brave soul to go out and buy Osuna's Astros Jersey?

It's frustrating though to see the complete bashing we've received, while there's -very- limited information about the case that's known to the public. I'm fine with them saying "If he's guilty, and more information comes out in the case that puts him in a horrible light, then the Astros have to take ownership for this."

However...not even saying "allegedly" in your rants just frustrates me. They know very little about what actually happened, probably as much as we know about the situation. Why can't people just wait for the court hearing.

That kind of journalism also doesn't improve your twitter rep and hope that you can point back at something later and say "I told you so". (Being right by saying "we should wait to judge" doesn't give you that ability for some reason.) Seeing guys who are normally level-headed like Buster Olney respond the way they have is surprising.

And Springer took 4 from Julio Lugo...

I remember that mess in 2003.

I think it is more to do about the media "picking and choosing" who they go after. I mean one of those articles was titled "why chapman still has value" or something like that. It sucks seeing my team being dragged through the mud. I wish they had never made this deal. I am sure most people doing the "what-aboutisms" feel the same. They don't like it, don't agree with it, wish we never did it, and all at same time we hate seeing our bashed. ESPECIALLY when Theo Epstein and Brian cashman get what seems to be more slack.

We got rid of Julio Lugo in a hurry during the Drayton years.

Well...um...except that familia also has a domestic violence case to his name. I guess you wouldn't know that bc there weren't any of the articles bashing the A's like we are getting bashed right now.

    Wasn't he later found innocent....

"A jury found former Houston Astros shortstop Julio Lugo innocent Wednesday of banging his wife's head against their vehicle after she testified in his misdemeanor assault trial that she exaggerated the story and he didn't mean to hurt her."

Kinda hard to fabricate injuries. Dropping charges is also common in repeat domestic violence victims...

Why do they keep asking teams with established closers about Osuna?

They were dropped against Brett Myers despite a witness seeing it because the wife said she didn't want him prosecuted. Almost always the situation that arises in these cases.

They know Osuna was suspended for 75 games for the domestic abuse policy.
They know Osuna did not appeal the suspension.
That's why there is a backlash. I bet you wouldn't be so keen to wait on all the facts to come out before passing judgment if your favorite baseball team did not obtain Osuna.

No I didn't know about Familia. Osuna's case I had heard about and it seemed to be more covered, possibly because Osuna is a bigger name than Familia? Who knows. Just looked up the case on Familia and his case was dismissed after not enough evidence was found. Osuna got a pretty stiff penalty already which would lead most to believe something had to happen. It's just heat I don't like to see affiliated with a team I cheer for.

But what I really hate about this trade is, people en masse on Twitter are disavowing their Astros fandom, including many longtime loyal fans, Overwhelmingly the fan base is not supportive of the move, and it is really giving us negative publicity and hurting our image and possibly our fanbase. If I was Reid Ryan, I would consider firing Luhnow's ass if Osuna is found guilty.
