Can someone provide the fully healthy 25-Man Roster? Don't wanna type it out, but we are STACKED. Still another month till the next trade deadline. Give it time.
I wouldn’t complain about the deadline if our offense wasn’t dead ass cold. We need a spark if our bats forgot to hit just because two all star is injured.
My guess for the projected playoff roster: CF Springer 3B Bregman 2B Altuve SS Correa 1B Gurriel DH Gattis RF Reddick LF Marwin C McCann Bench: Stassi, Maldonado, Kemp, Marisnick Rotation: Verlander, Cole, Keuchel, Morton Bullpen: Peacock, Devenski, Sipp, Pressly, McHugh, Rondon, Osuna, McCullers I could see Tyler White or Kyle Tucker instead of Kemp or Marisnick. Could also see Smith or Harris in the bullpen. Also wouldn’t be surprised if they added an overpaid OF in August.
All lineups are prone to slumps. When you take away 2 all star players, the odds of going into slumps increases. Sparks are only as good as the games they hit in. They're not going to add any bat that has more capabilities than Altuve or Correa. Yes, the guys they have do need to hit better... but adding a temporary marginally better fill-in type hitter doesn't guarantee that in any way. Nor is it a given that they won't just start hitting as is.
I think Devo is in danger of being optioned if/when Osuna is allowed to join the team. His xFIP has been pretty average all season and the homer bug has finally bitten him.
Ehh I don't know. He has had a terrible last 3 weeks, but before that he was doing quite well. He is capable of being dominant and that likely buys him more time. The Astros will count on him in the post season. The one I think that may lose his spot is Will Harris. His stuff isn't as good as the other options.
Seriously doubt Devo would be optioned. He’s been overworked and the new Astros relievers should make it easier on managing his innings pitched
He's only pitched 38 innings this year... on track for far less than he pitched last year, and overall not close to leading the bullpen staff. I just don't think his mechanics are built to last for an entire season. This was around the same time last year (post ASB) where he started getting wonky, and basically had to be shelved for 2 weeks in August. Hinch has been ultra-conservative with him this year... to the point that they've actually lost games that he would have been better off just finishing after only pitching 8-12 pitches (but instead, Hinch brought in other guys to get them work).
Devo has pitched the same number of innings as Harris, and fewer innings than McHugh and Peacock. Harris' underlying numbers and projections (including projected ERA) are quite a bit better than Devo's. Devo is a good reliever but the pen is pretty stacked. I would certainly take him over Sipp but they can't option Sipp.
Hopeful Playoff roster (pre-Aug. 31st waiver-deadline) CF Springer 3B Bregman 2B Altuve SS Correa 1B Yuli LF Tucker (In full on Ted mode) DH Gattis C Stassi RF Reddick Bench: McCann, Maldonado, Marwin, Kemp Rotation: JV, Keuchel, Cole, Morton Pen: Osuna, Rondon, Devo, McHugh, Peacock, Pressly, McCullers, Sipp Having four guaranteed catchers on a 25 man roster is a true burden. Joe Smith would be of better use as would another IF/OF off the bench
Stros aren't giving up prospects for rentals, they wanted a cheap defensive specialist they can easily resign. Ramos they have no chance of resigning with the added pitcher salaries. I woulda played Gattis as the 3rd C and been aggressive in getting a real bat to replace marwin when he isnt needed on defense (ie, when team is healthy), but you have the waiver deadline.
Kemp should start in LF unless Tucker does something to justify starting. Hes earnt it and the lineup cannot afford luxuries.
Dude, Ramos is not getting 3/$45M. Not even close. He didn't get close to that last year, settled for a one year deal. He is a year older, and has only added to his injury prone reputation. I think the logic is pretty straightforward.
A break from skittish overreactions? I forgot the endless posts where you were pining for Jonathan Schoop....
He is getting paid, that is his market value. Someone might throw more years at him. Bump this when he signs and I'll say I told you so
They filled three holes, including the closer in a market where high end relief pitching is at an absolute premium. A left fielder would have been great, but not reasonable to expect that the team would be able to address: closer, top set up man, catcher and left fielder.... just isn't very likely. The Astros have firmed up the pitching side of the equation about as much as feasible. Let's see what happens over the next month.
How are you going to find out what you have in Tucker unless you give him regular playing time? They already have a pretty good idea of what they have in Kemp.
