    We've reached a new stage in Trump's ever evolving defense strategy.
    • Russia wasn't involved
    • Ok, Russia was involved, but our campaign has no connections to Russia
    • Ok, we had connections to Russia, but no one did anything illegal
    • Ok, some people did things that were illegal, but we didn't collude
    • Even if we colluded, collusion is not a crime
    • Ok, we colluded, but nothing about it was criminal
    • <================= We are here.
    • Ok, it was criminal, but you cannot indict a president
    • Ok, you can indict a president, but I can pardon myself

    There's really nothing to debate or discuss. It's that bad. The narcissist's prayer has called this whole set of communications from Team 45 and the enablers. Just amazing.

    Why did they lie about it so much? Why?

    I think that makes sense and is a good part of it.

    "No no no. I beat Crooked Hillary all on my own! I barely even had the GOP behind me."

    But I'd also wager some of his Ruskie connections go way back and he really doesn't want anyone poking around there. I'd guess it's less about Putin and the Russian Federation and more about certain Russian business people and the Russian mob (money laundering, what have you, to prop up some of his shadier loans... who knows what else).

    Finally, I don't think his group was educated on campaign law, at all, and one reason they've lied their assess off is that they're not exactly sure what is allowed and what isn't, so just deny anything that looks unusual or weird or unseemly.

    EDIT: I've always thought his peculiar mix of pride and ignorance and insecurity was making this whole collusion thing look a lot lot worse than it would have if he'd been more straightforward about it.
