I totally understand it has nothing to do with the players already on the team. My point was, I thought that we ended up with a bunch of good dudes on the roster b/c management valued having good dudes on the roster- this move makes it seem like mere happenstance or a happy accident. I'm aware he's likely on a short leash, I just didn't want to see him get his second chance with Houston. As to not cheering when we get the 27th out- that's the dude at the center of the field controlling the game. I can't imagine, myself, wanting to stand and cheer that guy on. This will make me enjoy watching the Astros 5% less? 10%? I don't know, but somewhere in there. Giles was a headcase, a nut, and reading between the lines not particularly smart, but he wasn't a criminal. That's a pretty big difference. And we aren't talking about a run of the mill criminal here, but a pretty bad dude. I put child abusers, rapists and spousal abusers (of the serious variety- I'm well aware that spousal abuse can be a he said/she said and also not have serious physical consequences from my time working in the prosecutors office) all on a level that's worse than the typical/run of the mill crime driven by greed, addiction or jealousy in some way. To each their own, that's just how I feel at ground zero of this deal? Everyone else is entitled to their opinion and I"m not going to run around and say anyone has to feel the way I do.
It looks like Osuna has been pitching in the minors already to prepare for his reinstatement. I doubt he's going to spend much more time in the minors once he's reinstated.
They’d frame it as “ramp-up” or “extended rehab”. But it would serve the dual purpose of solving the roster crunch and letting the “we traded for a wifebeater” fervor die down.
If the Cubs had made this deal, Passan would've been all over it. Baseball has a winnowing fan base? It was my understanding that baseball had an expanding fan base and was doing quite well. Passan is an idiot and has had an anti-Astros bias for a long since they created the NL Central. That said...I'm not sure how I feel about this. It's a "WIN NOW" move and he does fill a need. But it's a bad look.
Trading Giles in exchange makes this even more gross. Like if a team had the balls to draft/sign Heimlich at a discount in the last draft. We're leveraging Osuna's violence to our advantage.
Totally different in my opinion. Yuli played over there, he's from a different culture, and he's not likely processing or interpreting things the way a native born american would. I'm pretty sure it's scumbag behavior everywhere to beat up on women. I mean, if this is the new moral standard then I feel like we should be signing the pedophile Oregon State kid that's ridiculously good and just went undrafted. He was at least 15 or 16 when he molested the little kid. You could blame that on youth if this is ok.
Why can't the clubhouse full of good dudes help elevate the guy with questionable history, and make him a better person? I will be honest and say that I do not know all of the details surrounding Osuna and his alleged domestic abuse, but I am also not ready to call him a complete piece of sh*t just yet.
The current Astros are not on the team because "they are good dudes", they are on the current roster because they are good at baseball.
