Never said that he can’t score on curry. Melo can certainly score on curry as CP3, Harden or Gordon could as well. But curry can make the extra pass for the easier bucket that Melo can. Comparing the two is asinine. One is an mvp and the other struggles to find a fit.
If I read it and interpreted it correctly, htown mentioned Melo posting up Curry. Did not state that he will have more assists than curry. That action provides us another player that they will need to provide help and can give us open looks. None of our forwards in the last years commanded that defensive help.
EDIT: I actually wasn’t responding to htown. Someone else brought up a comparison of melo with curry implying a net zero effect, to which I responded. That’s when htown responded about Melos offensive effect on curry. Two different points. Sure if you limit the expectations to just that. Offensive options. If you’re going to compare defensive liabilities with Curry than you can’t do that without taking into account the global differences between the two players. Put it this way, take curry and melo both off the court and the warriors are far worse in drop off than the rockets are without melo. And this is coming from someone that likes the addition of melo. But let’s now pretend like melo cancels out the contribution of curry.
Ariza is getting way too much credit for the rockets good defense. Where was ariza’s great defense prior to last year when the rockets were ranked close to last in the league ? The addition of Cp3, tucker, and emergence of Capela is much more of a factor than ariza. The defense is not going to drop off the face of the earth without him. It takes a TEAM to guard players like curry and Durant. People need to stop giving ariza all the credit.
considering the rockets defense was different prior, its not a surprise it was much better with ariza, lmm, and tucker. when the defense changed to switch everything with much better personnel. all of which are versatile, interchangeable, and disciplined. now 2 of them are gone. its funny how you mentioned how mediocre it was prior. thats what is concerning, bc reverting back to a mediocre defense give you 0 chance against GS.
I cant speak for htown but I don't know of anybody who has claimed that Melo cancels out Curry. From my perspective, if you force Curry to constantly defend Harden, CP3 and Melo all game long, that makes him tired and less effective at the end of games. Its another tactic that we can employ that we used to not have.
Listen...I'm okay with using Melo post ups ........a little, but it should in no way be a staple of our offense. Hmm...if someone showed me Melo's post ups per possession, I might change my stance.
I made an edit to my original post after you replied. You can refer back to it but I wasn’t responding htown. He chimed in creating a second point of debate unrelated to what I was originally responding to.
He'll want the ball where he's comfortable, but he wont command it. Not here with Paul & Harden doing the creating. Donovan would dump it down to him occasionally off what appeared to be set plays. It'd be an interesting experiment to put him in the high post, where Diaw played for D'Antoni, and see if he can create and/or score at the basket. But he'll have to learn to stop taking the contested 17fter.
Nic Batum MKG Marvin Williams Kent Bazemore TJ Warren Tony Snell James Johnson Courtney Lee Otto Porter Mo Harkless JaMychal Green (1yr) Iman Shumpert (1yr) Terrence Ross (1yr) DeMarree Carroll (1yr)
I'm not way too many people , and the guy is perfect for defending GS. He's a very good rotation/ role player on a title team.
someone who isn't even close to a threat on the offensive side of the ball isn't a player that is going to help you against GS. Allowing an already elite defense more reason to not guard someone isn't ideal
I have thought about this carefully, and have come to the conclusion that the Rockets should go for a 3/D wing with decent/good athleticism with part of the MLE. Houston needs to slow GSW and similar teams in the backcourt and before they can get close to the 3 point line. Batum has talent, but I don't think he is a good defender. Just because he is better than RA, doesn't make him a difference maker, just like you pointed out so wisely. I think the coaching staff should focus on helping RA, to get him ready for training camp. He needs to get help from a sports psychologist and by working with the training and coaching staff. If he plays well, then his trade value will go from zero to getting possible interest by some team.
To get an expiring contract to move with EGo and/or Capela in a deal to help a team like Minny or Toronto or Miamiclear cap for a quick rebuild in 2019.....LOL.
Just an example of possible Anderson trade that preserves our picks and gives 11 million in expiring salary for trade flexibility at the deadline.
I'm not understanding the extra pass thing. Melo isn't isolating Curry at the top. He's posting him up. If Melo is doubled he can find the open man, he's done that his entire career. But if its Melo v Curry on the block then its night night Curry. I like that jab at Melo at the end, nice to show your agenda in this whole thing.
Seriously... I'm sure Plowman is in the know somehow... but it's a bit amazing that some basic things that make him a horrible fit on this squad are so easily ignored. MKG has shot a GRAND TOTAL of 36 three pointers in his 6 year (353 game) NBA career. And its not like he's Clint Capela out there giving you 60%+ on 2 pointers at 10+ ppg. It might STILL be someone they get if it makes sense contractually as an off the bench special situation defensive guy. But the guy's not a fit on the whole.
Yeah no one ever said they cancel each other out but just having another option to exploit Curry is going to be useful especially down the stretch.
Man, I didn't said that they cancel each other. I just said that Melo gives Houston whole another dimension and a lot of possibilities they didn't have last season, and I brought up posting up Curry on switches. And on his passing abilities, he's much better and much more willing passer than he gets credit for. Same can be said about his defence when he is locked in. But it's just sad that people belive in all kinds of trash from media.
Diaw huh.....you know what that does sound interesting. I feel like he might be an underrated passer as well.
