I’ve seen him referenced a ton in this thread, and while Batum makes sense on multiple levels, I just can’t see the FO signing off on paying him $27 MM in 3 years. I still think Iman or a similar deal is likely. Short term contract at less money to fill in Ariza’s slot.
Are we evenable to trade our 2019 first? I see that a lot in posts about potential deals. Can’t trade your first 2 years in a row right?
Okay this is getting ridiculous. Man, you joined Clutchfans EIGHTEEN years ago and you think Ryan Anderson is worth one of Miami's centerpieces?
Batum is the exact same age as Ryan Anderson. How exactly is he “washed up, and over the hill,” but Anderson, who couldn’t crack the Rockets playoff rotation last season, isn’t? Also, Anderson is a one dimensional player (three point shooter), while Batum brings more of an all-around game to the table. Bottom line, they are similar players at worst, and it’s not hard to make the argument that Batum is better. Then, you have to take into account that Batum is a small forward that is playable against the Warriors, while Anderson is relegated to being a cheerleader because there’s nobody on the court he can guard. Having another guy that can play against the Warriors is something the Rockets need. I understand that Batum’s extra year on his deal sucks, but Charlotte wouldn’t even entertain this swap if the contracts ran identical lengths. It’s the same reason Atlanta isn’t going to trade Bazemore for Anderson and the Rockets aren’t going to get guys like DeMarre Carroll, either. And holding onto Anderson for another season is a mistake with CP3’s age. I’m not saying Batum is the only option when it comes to trading Ryno, but that in the Rockets current situation, it makes basketball sense and that it’s better than keeping a guy that must remain plastered to the bench against Golden State.
It depends on the strategy mapped out by TF and DM. I will say this, if DM and MDA are convinced that Batum or MKG is the difference between winning and losing to GS, TF will give them the money... but they will have to convince him.
Thanks for the information as always. There is no way that MKG can be the difference between winning and losing to GS. Batum is unlikely to be a difference maker because of his injury history.
Say what you want about Kidd-Gilchrist’s shot, but he’s one of the best wing defenders in the NBA. If D’Antoni could figure out how to hide him on offense, he would help against Golden State.
Realistically, I agree with you. We don’t know if Melo chooses to stay past this year, and CP3 has already shown numerous signs of breaking down.
I don’t think MKG is the difference either but maybe MDA feels differently. As for Batum, he claims he is finally healthy. He has health and motivation issues. If he is healthy, I think he could be the difference. He plays hard when he is motivated. I don’t worry about that on the Rockets. He is an extremely capable defender, passer and ball handler. He could really thrive in Houston.... but it comes down to what DM and MDA think.
Whenever, I hear about motivation issues, it rings an alarm bell for me. His health issues are a matter of concern too.
Morey's going to trade Ryno for 1 or 2 decent 3&D wings and the media is still going to think we'll lose 10 more games because of no Ariza lol
