Others have touched on this already, but you only trade for Batum if we're also getting back another asset.

He was pretty bad this past year.

Irrelevant. This is garbage in, garbage out. Batum's deal is a year longer than Ryno's -- an extra $27M we're talking here.

Unless Charlotte attaches an asset we are best served hanging onto Ryno and/or looking to the next deal.

Exactly. This isn’t portland batum, some people just want to make a move just to make one

Immaterial. LeBron is among the best defenders in the league when he's trying.

That was truly ugly and putrid. The smell won't come off for quite some time.

it sure would be great to find a way to convert Anderson into a useful player. His confidence is shot and his skill-set has become even more expendable with the addition of Melo. I'm very concerned about a defensive drop off. I still think we should have resigned Luc. I really hope the james johnson rumors are true because we need another defender with length. He's also a good passer and good on the boards.

    Get er done Morey!

I wanted Mike Scott with part of the MLE. He is so accurate shooting the 3 and the 2. I was willing to overlook his defensive shortcomings.

We could always stretch waive Waiters after the trade, keep Johnson and still save $$ under the luxury tax. But if no deal is done by August 31, I predict Ryno will be stretched.

Please. Please. Anybody but Ryan Anderson. Bazmore or Demarre Carroll would be ideal.

He was out of position and had to play with Howard who is a bad fit. Hes due for a huge year.

When we’re this close to the Warriors, the difference from Anderson to Batum might be enough to put us over the top. What if we had Batum instead of Anderson last year? That one extra wing to fill minutes guarding Durant would have been huge.

Our rotation doesn’t get as tightened by Mbah a Moute’s injury and guys on the wing overall play a few less mins per game (Maybe even CP3). Maybe Ariza has more legs for those 3s in game 7... Maybe Chris doesn’t get hurt...

Batum isn’t a head-and-shoulders better player than Anderson but what he can do is actually be playable against Golden State and that’s why (if OPJ and Butler aren’t doable), we have to make this move. Keeping Anderson and wasting roster and cap space that doesn’t help you on the floor makes no sense.

He’s just lazy in general on that end of the floor. We already have Melo coming in, so you’d hope they complement that with an actual tough defender who can hit a three when the need arises.

Good playmaker as you mention, but we don’t really need one of those either...

    exactly right.

anderson isn't playable against the warriors and batum is. that's enough to make the trade. they get out of his final year and we get a playable forward.

Why August 31? The luxury tax amount is calculated based on salary at season's end, I think. So they can deal him at the deadline for the same tax saving.

Anyone that wants Batum's crippling contract over Anderson is out of their mind. Batum has seriously declined as a player and his contract is atrocious, substantially worse than Ryno's. We can get rid of Anderson if need be next year and be in good position to get players while he will still be effective during the regular season this year.

I'm glad Morey is the GM and not some of the emotional fans that can't see the forest for the tree in front of them.

We simply cannot afford to make such mistakes during the few years CP3 has left of being HOF quality player before he declines.

If we stretch him this year, we have an $8M cap hold each year for the next 5 years and no way of trading that hold or getting rid of it. It would be better to just let him sit at home and have an expiring contract next year to work with instead of stretching him this year if it comes to that.
