This is the worst the Astros have looked since they got swept by the A's last September and got swept by the terrible White Sox in August last year. With that said, I'm not really worried about the Astros...at least not yet. Bad stretches happen, even to great teams like Houston. (Eventually Boston will encounter theirs.) Seattle and Oakland have been playing well lately but I think both teams will cool off soon...they're solid but not that good. The Astros should win the division by a comfortable margin. Injuries to key players are obviously hurting, too. Not just at the plate...but defensively too.
We don’t have a 15 game lead like last year. 13 of our next 20 are against SEA or OAK. If our offense doesn’t magically turn it around, it’s not unreasonable that we are out of first place before Correa comes back.
They can get some breathing room heading into September or they can buckle in for a fight. Should be fun (or miserable)! @ Seattle (3) @ LA Dodgers (3) @ SF Giants (2) vs Seattle (4) vs Colorado (2) @ Oakland (3) @ Seattle (3) @ Anaheim (3) vs Oakland (3) vs Anaheim (4)
Yes. the division got better. In fact, its the best in baseball. They still have 13 freakin games against Seattle to determine their faith with them. They've already pretty much wrapped up the Oakland H-2-H, which is more a problem for them since they need to make up the ground. If they end up in a dog fight in September, so be it.... but they're still projected to win this thing handedly if they get their key pieces back in time.
Because only idiots bet on baseball. As bad as they hit all series, they were still one swing away from winning.
I experienced last August as well as the sweep in 2005. Doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it. Even with Correa and Altuve out we should have taken one against Texas when you have Dallas Justin and lance going.
And TEN of them are in the next 20 games. Those ten games will determine the division and we are throwing the bad news bears out there. I agree in some hypothetical world, Seattle should pose no problem to us. But unless this JV squad figures it out over the next two weeks, we are in deep trouble in the division.
They have those three going every week. They haven't been swept all year till just right now. Nobody said you have to enjoy it... but people panicking right now says a lot about the demographic here. Nobody says they're playing well... they're far from it. But this is also not the time they need to be playing their best, and they know that as well... hence the extreme precaution with bringing these guys back from injury.
Great... I'll be anticipating somebody raising a division banner in August! Oh wait, we don't raise division banners anymore...
One of their AAAA players (along with JD Davis, Jake Marisnick, AJ Reed & Derek Fisher. Rumor has it A.J. draws a name out of a hat. )
