If you're hoping that JD Davis, Tyler White, and Max Stassi are all going to carry the offense... with Tucker already adjusting to all-star form.... its going to be a rude awakening.

However, unlike last year's pitching, there's fair enough confidence that when Altuve/Correa are in the lineup again, the offense will stabilize fine.

I have no delusions about those guys. I was more thinking of Reddick, Marwin and Gurriel who have all been terrible of late.

Marwin is decidedly who he is... and makes it much easier for the Astros to low ball him or just let him go next year and let Kemp take his AB's.

Reddick and Gurriel will always be streaky, but are suprisngly consistent at certain aspects of the game (none of them being that they can reach superstar level status and carry the team night-in/night-out).

As is always, this offense/team is only as good as their star players. But they also can't support having more than one non MLB player in the lineup (and right now, that would be Tucker).

No, not night-in/night out. But we can hope for the occasional key hit. Having the non-superstar guys step up when the situation calls for it is what team depth is supposed to mean.

Yuli has done that consistently. Reddick to a lesser degree.

Felt like adding a bat before Correa and Altuve were hurt would’ve been a nice luxury but now it’s becoming imperative.

Any idea who’s getting the call to fill the spot today?

I really have a sinking feeling. Maybe I am just being pessimistic. But I just don’t feel the magic this year thus far. Yea. Wins are there. Maybe two losses against a toilet team skews your view but walking into a four gamer against Seattle down your stars Sure feels like uh oh territory. That and Oakland having just handled us. Surely they are bound to cool.

If you can get a good rental bat at a good cost, you do it and even if Correa and Altuve were healthy. The Astros. Like still use a LF.

What happened to the pitching staff last year is starting to look like a re-occurrence but with a script change to the offense.

Well, we won a world series anyway :)

So..... Yuli is making the start at second today. Wtf? Does that make any sense to anybody? Why not Kemp, Marwin, or even Bregman?

I think the long-term plan as Yuli's bat becomes less 1B starter-level will be to transition him into a utility role once Marwin leaves. Most 3B don't have a big problem moving to 2B; they don't have to cover that much more ground (particularly with shifts) and the throws are easier.

You're right they could certainly play any of those three other guys there. IMHO Bregman should be kept on the left side of the infield just for consistency sake.

Utility role would likely go to Kemp next year and with gattis gone, yuli could fill the dh.
