Alex English 16 seasons, .500+ from 2 pt range. But he didn’t play with his back to the basket. From my memory, his baseline jumper was automatic. Career .832 from the line. Would have definitely been a lethal corner 3 option in today’s game. He only took 83 threes in 16 seasons. I wish there were more advanced stats available. To put his shooting in context, Basketball Reference lists comparable stats. The top comparison for English is Otis Thorpe. Think about shooting Thorpe’s field goal percentage without dunks. English deserves to be on the short list here. He might take the cake if you’re looking for modern players who aren’t post men (like Malone was for most of his career) and who largely ignored the 3 point line.
But Hamilton attempted over 1500 3s. Yes, his percentage was much higher for 2s, but isn’t this a discussion of guys who lived in the midrange, who didn’t even attempt 3s?
+1 Alex English was money. I first saw him in person when he was playing college ball at USC (Gamecocks) and I was a Rocket season ticket holder for most of his NBA career. Those Nugget teams with him and Fat Lever were a joy to watch. Baseline jumpers, floaters in the lane, just a pure shooter who rarely shot from long range so hard to say how his corner 3 would have been.
If we are talking guys that didn't feature the 3ball and not doing any research before posting, I'd go with Calvin Murphy Vinnie Johnson and j@amc was on point with Alex English. Man he was slick!
Murphy shot 28% from 3 range still averaging 12 a game. Slightly ahead of my tume but by all accounts he had deep range. It was just a matter of time
