The trade was officially made last Wednesday. In the off-season, players have up to a week to report for physicals with their new teams. While the Hawks are likely waiving the physical requirement for Melo, there still need to be physicals for Shroeder, TLC, Anderson and Muscala. Not until then will the trade be “officially official.” Only THEN could the Melo waiver/buyout be completed.

Probably. After being waived, there is a 48 hr period. Then he is free to sign. So we missed Tuesday 5:45.

    of this week.

OKC couldn't utilize him properly.. We'll make him a respected weapon again playing off of Harden and CP3 and they know that.

One of the keys is Paul isn't a scorer by nature.

Westbrook and George are both "scorers" so being a 3rd option scorer is tough for a guy like Melo.

With Houston he'd be a secondary scorer and primary scorer with the 2nd units.

There was a stretch in last season...around December I think, where the 2nd unit with Chris Paul and Ryan Anderson were murdering teams. Then of course Anderson fell to pieces. I expect CP+Melo to replicate that for the entire season.

Though Chris Paul is seen as the "Point Gawd", and rightly so, he also has all the elements of a scorer. When he shifts into that mode, taking over.. he's elite. I agree with what you're saying about him making everyone better, but he can always get his ahead of all, too CP3 is just that good. He's both.
Melo will score his fare share with both Chris and James, but should put up #'s across the board ala "Olympic Melo". I like the point about Westbrook and George, and agree that OKC is a disjointed mess compared to our smooth, well oiled machine led by CP3/Beard.

What happened to Anderson exactly? I keep reading he was scared to shoot.

Dude just caved. Looked like he lost all confidence in his shot. He NEVER looked to shoot. Seemed to pass every time he touched the ball. Strange because he would routinely shoot far beyond the 3pt line, it made him so dangerous. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone look like they just gave up in even attempting a shot.

Was it confidence? Was he upset with all the noise on being traded? Hard to say. Whatever it was it seemed to be a massive mental block of some sort.

plus Harden is a winning playmaker.. his passes and assists translate into hsi teammates gettibg better and wins

unlike stat chasing/rebound and shot stealing WB whose passes and assists translate solely into trip dubs

It is almost comical to compare Anderson's approach to shooting to that of Gerald "Green Light" Green.

Anderson would get cold and lose confidence. And then to top it off, didn't offer any other value. There were games he was sneaky good rebounding wise. If he did more of that on the cold shooting nights that could be tolerable.

Gerald Green has a "don't give AF" attitude when he is in the game as it relates to getting those 3pt shots off. The shot selection is poor at times, but he doesn't hesitate and I think MDA likes that.

Speculation, I think part of Anderson's loss of confidence is knowing his role was being reduced and he could be shipped out of town. I think @Codman alluded to him talking less in the locker room and being more withdrawn.

Morey shouldn't make a bad deal....but it would be ideal to move Anderson before training camp. He won't be a chemistry issue if he is still on the team, but it would best best to have people on the team that are going to be part of the team for the season's run.

Must have been all the outside noise plus him not living up to the contract and when you miss 2 or 3 in a row I can def see it killing your confidence.

When Morey gave him that deal it was before the whole positionless thing kind of took off and now Ryno's value doesn't match his contract.

You're a lifetime 3-point specialist signed to a giant contract to be a 3-point specialist for a coach who utilizes 3-point specialists better than any other coach in NBA history and who's very system depends on 3-point specialists. This is a coach who's known for giving his players the green light to shoot any time they want. Gerald's entire value to this team is his never being afraid to pull the trigger, for better or worse.

In other words: Regardless of the reason, it makes zero sense for Ryno to be gun-shy.

If I'm MDA, every single time Anderson is within 5 feet of me during a practice, I'm saying, "Just shoot the damn ball."

These are all great points and absolutely true.

I think Anderson is a stand up guy/teammate and genuinely tried to do the right things, but human nature just took over. It’s so hard to overcome the feeling of not being wanted in any environment.

Totally agree that he needs to be traded before camp. I believe it’s best for the team and for Ryan.

To your point of comparing mindsets of Green and Anderson regarding shooting...Could you imagine Anderson having the same unconscious mindset that Green possesses? He’d be so deadly. I think the Rockets really needed that out of him.

I’d be pretty positive in saying that coach and players told Anderson shoot the ball all the time.

As I stated in my last post, human nature kind of takes over. Sometimes you just slump in life. I don’t think Anderson could get out of his own head.

This confirms Nook's report, that the players want Melo on the team.

That's because, unlike many here on CF, the players know this is not a guy with an empty tank OR a guy who only cares about himself.

Eric Gordon has done a phenomenal job of being the primary scorer of the 2nd unit for the last 2 years, not sure Melo comes in and immediately supplants him as the number 1 option.
