I'm over it really. Whatever happens happens, and it doesn't even matter what I or anyone else wants. I can't even waste my energy speculating on the best options because my opinion is about as useful as a steak knife with a bowl of blueberries. Morey is gonna do what he wants. We will either be unwrapping a great unexpected Christmas present, or be looking at some used, passed down Christmas sweater that serves a purpose, but is nothing to get excited about or show off. I'm hoping for the first obviously.
I’m cool with James Johnson just so if Green does his Bs in the playoffs we have a player that could literally murder him in 3 seconds.
I like this. Would rather have Koufos than Shump. Shump has been unplayable last two years in the playoffs. Ennis is likely better than him. Koufos fiills a need given Nene's decline this past season. HOU in: Johnson and Koufos HOU out: Anderson, Nene, Onuaku, cash (or 2nd) for Onuaku's buyout SAC in: Waiters, Nene, Onuaku (waived), cash (or 2nd) SAC out: Koufos MIA in: Anderson MIA out: Johnson, Waiters Miami reduces salary by $6m and avoids luxury tax. Sac gets something back for Koufos expiring.
Shump hasn't played because of injury, and not being LBJ's favorite. The year before he got hurt, IS had his second best season in his career from downtown. He and KK are both expirings.
I like Melton I just doubt he cracks the rotation unless guys get injured or sit out for rest. Hope I’m wrong because he’s got an mvp, a HOF pg and the best 6th man in the nba in front of him. If he cracks the rotation that means he’s playing at a 1st team all rookie level at the worst.
I like your thought process... but given we signed Hartenstein & still have Qi, I am not so sure we add another big man. (I agree with you that we may need another one - I just prefer trying to get Dedmon from ATL) I could envision something like ATL: 2020 2nd HOU + Onuaku (HOU) + Davis (SAC) + $3M cash from HOU Cut salary + pick a future 2nd for Dedmon. Davis & Onuaku are bought out (using some of Htown's cash considerations) MIA: Anderson (HOU) + 2019 1st HOU Miami gets under tax (renounce Mickey + Babbit as well) and picks up a 1st to start restocking their roster. SAC: Waiters (MIA) + rights to Gentille (HOU) Kings get wing they were pursuing plus pick up international prospect. HOU: Johnson (MIA) + Dedmon (ATL) Htine ship! Solid 9 / 10 man rotation for playoffs. CP3 - MCW - Melt 'em Beard - EGo - GG Johnson - Menace - Qi Melo - Tucker - Hartenstein CCap - Dedmon - Nene Also works without including Atlanta. Except Onuaku goes to MIA & Davis goes to Htown. Houston picks up about $5-6M TPE in that scenario.
If we got MKG for Anderson we will beat the Warriors if he can be healthy. He cant shoot worth a damn but he can drive to the basket and play defense and is 100 percent unselfish. He couldn't care less about his PPG.
So, how far are the Rockets in the tax now? I wonder if they might do what OKC did with Melo-- get a guy with a contract just as long as Ryno's or maybe even longer, but has a smaller $ amount for year 1 so they can avoid at least a big portion of the tax.
James Johnson would be amazing, but that would give us 3 major rotation players who are "combo-forwards" that should be playing 4 in today's game, and especially in our system (Melo, Tucker, Johnson). The only "3" we have is Ennis, and while he's shown promise, he's not a sure thing. I want a guy like Jonathon Simmons, who's a vet on a young team on a cheap deal, and is a Houston native.
Quit with the nonsense of Sacramento taking on Waiters two extra years for no compensation. That would take at least a 1st rounder for them to consider. I am on the Batum train myself, the only real positive player we could get without giving up draft picks. Yes his contract sucks but it is his contract that allows us to get him only for Anderson and we could dump Onuaku too to open up a roster spot. Batum with a reduced offense load should strive in our system and gives us a SF that can actually do some play making which will be a joy for a change and is still a positive defensive player.
100% agree. Not to mention he’s the only target of all these names that stands 6’8” with a 7’4” wing span. His versatility would be amazing in this team.
