Skill-wise, Carroll is a perfect fit here. Just like Dwight Howard is at the center position. Their willingness to accept the role is what makes them bad fits in my opinion. Our best offense initiated by ISO ball. Nothing wrong with that, especially when it’s Chris Paul or James Harden as the initiators. They break the defender down after getting the mismatch they want. Then it’s up to them to make a play. Score or pass. Usually, when they pass, it’s to the right guy. But sometimes defenses rotate properly, and we’re forced to swing it. That’s where the ball movement happens. Carroll doesn’t want to stand around and shoot. He wants to cut most of the game. Ariza didn’t do a lot of that. And he became one of the best corner three point shooters in the league. Can’t cut of Harden or Paul get to the basket and draw help defense. However, with Melo, I think there’ll be a lot more opportunities to cut for the corner guys, assuming Melo is an initiator. Except Melo’s initial position will be at the elbow and not beyond the three like CP3 and Harden.
I can't see Morey trading for Batum. A $27 mil player option 3 years from now for an aging role player with an injury history? Nah. Also, MKG is interesting. If he shared the floor with a center who can shoot (hartenstein, jo chee), he could could set picks/cut on offense and guard the biggest threat when on defense.
Fair assessment. James Johnson makes a lot of sense on the Rockets. But I don't think you can get Richardson attached on that. Like you said, it would be Waiters. Rockets would also add Nanu. That would save the Heat 4M. And they want to give Winslow an extension. Morey would probably try to route Waiters to a 3rd team. Johnson's salary at 14M is a nice mid-tier salary which is nice to have on a roster to make trades in the future for salary matching purposes.
Houston Out: Anderson and Onua Houston In: Johnson and Shump Kings Out: Shump Kings In: Waiters Heat out: Johnson and Waiters Heat in: Anderson and Onua
Who's to say the Rockets are the only team after this player? Also the team trading him could want the deal done before training camp starts. Might not have that kind of time.
Guarantee you Morey isn't targeting a single player. That's not the way an analytical mind works. Everything is just varying degrees.
LOL, THIS! I was just about to post this. Guys this makes a ton of sense. 1) Miami lessens the LT payroll to make room for Winslow extension. 2) Rockets move out Anderson, get Johnson and Shumpert. "defenderS" And Shump comes off the books after this season. 3) Kings, who were LOOKING for a swingman, get Waiters. Nanu can go to either Miami or Sac in this trade and it works. Probably Sac so Miami can get more savings and Sac has the room. This trade makes the most sense to me right now for all teams involved.
Somebody please tell me he's about to throw a fancy no look pass to his left in this photo and that he's not shooting the ball.
Lmao at anybody who didn’t know MKG’s shot is the ugliest thing in the NBA. It’s been completely fu*ked since he was at Kentucky and they tried to rebuild it when he got drafted, but he can’t change and is often injured.
I replied to a poster saying he'd be surprised if a deal were done before training camp. Point of my reply is there are various reasons why a deal could happen sooner rather than later. I didnt say playerS but I too have no doubt this will most likely involve multiple players. Your reply is beside the point. And I agree.
If we had MKG he would be flamed just like Brewer. Maybe the one guy in league who shoots worse than Brewer. Imagine when he missed 30 straight threes. You would normally never trade for Batum, but Anderson is 20 million on the bench so it’s essentially like playing Batum 5 million and he would actually play a lot. He’s also only 30, he’ll be 33 by the time his contract is up. That is not old considering CP3 is already that age we are in win now mode.
The trade is a slam dunk for us but I don't think Miami bites. I think they can get something better.
why would the kings do this deal? why would they want to lock themselves into 3 years of Waiters instead of having Shumpert's expiring contract?
Heat have two issues, as I see it at least. 1. Lux tax (w/imminent extension + possible/likely D-Wade return). 2. Roster redundancy. And, of course, they have The Godfather. Riles is famously difficult to work with (I'd love to be a fly on the wall if he and Ainge ever got serious about doing a deal!!!).
Nope, that was his actual shot. Kind of astounding he made it all the way to the NBA with that ugly-ass form. He's fixed it, at least partially:
Because the Kings are looking for a swingman. And were willing to throw money at Zach Lavine. And are considering Rodney Hood. And they are the Kings.
You might be right. We don't know what else is on the table. But the Heat getting off Waiters contract and getting out of the LT while still being able to extend Winslow has value. So there is at least a reason for the move.
May as well. Houston Rockets haven't had a first rounder in years. Plus, the 2019 NBA draft is pretty weak according to the pundits. Specially given that the Rockets pick will most likely end up in the high 20's. And with any luck, De'Anthony Melton turns into a lottery talent from this past draft and that would cushion trading away a late 2019 1st rounder.
