I think I agree with you here. And I'm the last guy in the world arguing for Kemp as any kind of regular contributor, but yeah, I don't see how Granderson is enough of an upgrade to bother wasting time with on an insurance basis.
This gets lost all the time. A historically great baseball team playing against 7 .500 teams is likely to win what, less than half the time, just do to the vagaries and luck of baseball? Maybe 2 out of 3 times? I mean, none of this is going to be where we can be like the Warriors and pretty much know we are cutting down the nets at the end of the deal if we stay healthy. this point gets lost all the time by people talking baseball.
Why exactly is a .214 BA irrelevant? Or having a lower WAR than Springer in every season of his career but 1? A terrible defender, who some would call the worst OF in the league? Could you be getting overexcited over a guy because he's.... marketable? Someone ESPN can take to despite not being anything close to the hype? There are so many realistic, good options out there for the Stros, its hilarious how an unreasonable scenario that gets the fantasy experts going is the one people can't shut up about.
If they truly are waiting to see how the next few days goes before making a decision to sell or not, we need Miami to take a couple of games from them starting tonight. Harper isn't really realistic, but Herrera is
I think Harper is realistic, Yankees are going to throw him more than anyone can come close to matching. Washington should atleast get a return
I'll just reminisce on last year, when I spent a good half+ of the season b!tching that they needed another frontline starter to compete in the postseason. Then they didn't do it by the deadline, and I was ****ing pissed. Then they did it all. All of it.
I think there’s a 30% chance Harper is traded. As long as they get an mlb ready OF prospect in return (or if they believe Robles is ready, or they can acquire a veteran OF separately), trading Harper is unlikely to cost them more than a couple games.
I don't think they move Harper unless they are moving all of their FA types. If they move Harper they are looking towards 2019 and will move Herrera, Murphy, Reynolds, possibly others. So I don't think they will be looking for an OF necessarily with Robles on the come and Eaton and Soto already here and controlled. Yes, they could move Harper and still contend for the playoffs, but their chances of doing something when they got there would be incredibly small. I agree with the 30% part, I think that is probably about right....but right now they are 4.5 out of the wildcard, if they win a couple and Atlanta/others lose a couple and they go into Monday 2.5 back i'd be surprised if they moved Harper and sent that message to their fan base....they are in a tough situation for sure
Not sure what he makes the rest of the season, but the Yankees are over 191 Million right now and don't want to cross the 197 Tax Line. I would think Harper has more than 6 million coming the rest of this season. I'd be very surprised if they traded for him. Either way there isn't going to be a trade war going on over Harper where the cost in prospects goes up. That's just not how it has worked lately.....
With Tucker sitting tonight for the 3rd time in 4 games, maybe going after an OF is in the cards. Didn't see it playing out this way with Tucker, but if they ain't going to play him everyday then yea we need to be on the look for a quality veteran OF. Adam Jones would be a good fit, seems to be a good dude, he is a good solid defender and while he isn't what he used to be, coming here and being energized could very likely get him back to being above average at the plate at least
