McCullers also liked the move on Twitter... maybe he needed a little adjustment... I smell him getting back on track.
If his stuff is so meh then find some Carolina League pitchers his age or younger that have been better than him. Only one that I can find is rated as one of the Rangers’ ten best prospects with potentially three plus pitches per Fangraphs.
To me, this move says the Astros aren't supremely confident in McCann's health, and Federowicz isn't a major league backup, so they had to do something.
I also have a lot more trust in the people who see him play on a weekly basis as opposed to raw numbers against amateur opposition. Much, much more often than not , the raw numbers amount to nothing at that level. More terrible logic. Find some Carolina pitchers his age who raked then were successful starting pitchers for elite teams. Not worth getting worked up about. Unless you've seen him play week in, week out for the past 2 years, we've got nothing to talk about.
I like this signing. We didn't get a guy who will help the offense much, but he solidifies a inexperienced position and adds both depth and defense. I wasn't feeling good about the possibility (McCann may not be able to play) of Stassi and FedX being our only guys behind the plate come playoff time and this has been addressed without giving up top prospects or paying big money. Now we can turn around and focus on a arm or bat.
