Tucker for a rental is beyond stupid. It was just a speculative article. I think there is zero chance Washington trades Harper for the type of returns they would be offered.
Oh I don't doubt you are right. That article isn't happening. I was asking Snake his opinion b/c he put Reddick as his likely outcome on Tucker. If that's true, I'd do Harper for Tucker straight up and not have a single second thought. Tucker could well be very much worse than Reddick. Or, he could be an 8 time all star. We know Bryce Harper at 26 years old is a stud, that would extend the lineup and fill in the only non-catcher hole on the roster. That doesn't guarantee a WS or anything. Hell, it doesn't probably even add more than 4 or 5% tops to our WS chances (baseball isn't basketball obviously). There is no certainty in life. I got the sense Snake is much less bullish on Tucker than many others so that's the sense I was looking for from him.
Here comes another trade deadline of ppl demanding we do something but also valuing our prospects as if we don't already have stars at their position.. Should be a fun weekend..
Assuming Correa comes back healthy, every infield position is blocked. Other teams are going to poach these guys in rule 5 if we dont move a few of them. Much rather get something back rather than nothing. Would have rather given up a prospect infielder than a LHP in the catcher trade with the Angels for this reason. Yes, look forward to how things play out.
Tucker/Martes/Giles would be the all time worst trade Houston has ever made. I peg Tucker as a Josh Reddick outcome as a compliment. Reddick has been worth 18 fWAR so far in his career and he's posted multiple seasons of 3+. That as Kyle Tucker's most likely outcome is fantastic. But I think Tucker's ceiling is higher, someone like Christian Yellich as a comp. That kind of upside makes trading him even straight up for Harper a really bad idea. Harper can't be more valuable than Machado was, and Machado was traded for one back-end Top 100 guy and a couple interesting throw-ins. I would hate Houston to trade for Harper, but if so I think a fair offer would be something like Derek Fisher, Josh James, and Riley Ferrell. If they liked Giles, I'd probably do Harper for Giles and Fisher.
Fair enough. I value your opinion as always but I think a WAR analysis is wrong headed. How much probability does Harper add to winning a title this year? How much championship probability will Tucker add over 6 years. That’s the alaysis imo
If you were getting the 2015 or 2017 version of Harper he would increase the chances of winning it all quite a bit in my opinion. Adding that bat to a healthy roster would make the lineup crazy good This years version probably minimally increases your chances. The power is great but he has really struggled. He has some attitude issues from time to time also though his teammates, at least outwardly, seem to like him. Probably a very good chance that coming into our clubhouse would energize him and he would go on a great run...just not worth Tucker, no rental is. Knowing full well it isn't going to happen....i'd guess something like Bukauskas, Alcala and Thornton would get it done. Not necessarily those guys, but 3 guys in that range. Would likely take a little more than what LA gave for Machado who is having a lot better season than Harper, but Washington doesn't necessarily want to move Harper
The Yankees have added Britton and Happ for most "meh" prospects. It is quite possible that both falter, but the Yankees should be better.
Why? There is 0% he will be resigned. A realistic option is Shin Choo Coochie given the Rangers pay a good chunk of his salary. Besides the bullpen, a consistent bat is pretty important for a team that either runs hot or cold. Marwin was regressed below his mean and is pretty much a defensive specialist, the bottom of the lineup outside of Kemp has been very mediocre. Luhnow had 5 years of tanking to stockpile the best prospects in the league, every GM's dream, and now he's content to play it safe with 0 risk, little cutesy moves. Like Cameron Maybin, Maldonado, he's very much playing the numbers.
