Oh for real? Cool. You mean the same bullpen that won the World Series last year with the nice additions of Rondon and Smith and perhaps Cionel Perez couldn’t get the job done. Forget about the Astros having the 2nd best bullpen in the AL. It’s time to pack it in and blow it all up
What an overreaction. They need to find another proven closer. This isn't just me speaking. The guys on MLB (Bowden/Stein/Lidge) agree with me. I dont like your tone so please dont respond to this post.
Wining a world series isn't an opinion thing, either they'll win it or they won't. They could add someone who plays like prime Mariano and not win the WS, and they could do nothing and still win it. The current roster construction would be far from the worst team to ever win a title (you could argue it's more talented than last year's squad.) I understand the desire to add another reliever, though I think the Astros' bullpen issues are more noise than signal, but the team has the 2nd best record and baseball, the best run differential, and now that Gleyber and Andujar have graduated (and Tucker technically hasn't) they have arguably the best farm system of the AL playoff contenders this season. Your perceived inability for the Astros to "play with the big boys" is a nonsense narrative.
I have no idea who Jason Martinez but he was having a live chat on mlbtraderumors.com. Someone asked who Astros will target for relief help and he said maybe Jake Diekman. Is this Martinez guy legit or some random guy? Also yay or nay to Diekman?
Let's see: Giles had meltdowns last postseason, he's gone. Devenski was shaky at times, and Harris has clearly regressed. Remember, while this is one of the best bullpens in the league by ERA, we also have a ton of blown saves against teams like the Indians, Yankees, and Red Sox, who will also make the playoffs, and have only gotten better. It's an arms race.
Agreed, but you should do everything you can to give the team it's best chance to win another WS. I'm pretty sure Luhnow will make a move by the deadline.
Cole, Rondon & Smith in the offseason trump anything the Indians, Yanks or Sox did in the offseason and have done so far at the deadline. I’m certain Astros will better some area of the team but with the most potent lineup in baseball, one of the greatest rotations in MLB history and the #2 bullpen in the AL that any move is a luxury at this point
What the Astros or any other teams did in the winter is irrelevant to the discussion because their play is already accounted for. The Astros have areas to improve and should explore them.
Even with them, we've still struggled this year against the Indians, Yankees, and Red Sox, so my point still stands. And we're already done with the former two teams this regular season.
Not said anything different. I’m not going to pretend that they arent hands away the best team in baseball at this point before whatever they do at the deadline
