No, those moves in December and September do not count for the purposes of the deadline, because their performance is already figured into how good the Astros are currently. The Astros and Red Sox and Yankees are fairly evenly matched. The Yankees added Britton and the Red Sox made a move. Perhaps Britton gets hurt or struggles......... but the Yankees are likely better right now than they were a week ago.

If the Astros can make a move to improve their chances in the 2018 playoffs, they should do it within reason. If Luhnow doesn't want to give up 5-6 years of Perez for 3 months of Britton, understood.... but they need to be actively trying to improve the team.... because it is highly unlikely they are going to be getting any late summer gift wrapped surprises like Verlander this season.

...not much has changed in 3 weeks, other than the Yanks adding another elite closer. It's not like these W-L records convince me of anything, the Stros do not have the feel of last year when everything kept falling into place. The offensive leaders have regressed aside from Bregman who is carrying the team, while the Indians are crushing it. You have to respond to the arms race and I will hold Luhnow accountable since you lot are from the "just happy to be here" crowd. I enjoy the games, but enjoy winning more . there are clear holes that can be addressed WITHOUT losing elite prospects

Well I guess we should just pack it in and get ready for Deshaun and the Texans. Wait we cannot watch them either bad O line and JJ sucks and they dont stand for the anthem. Well this just sucks I guess I can maybe just read some books. Hell to the NAW I am going to be watching the Astros.Maybe we will get lucky like last year.

At some point the Martes, Armenteros, Perhaps Whitley, etc are going to become available relievers. Worked well last year with Martes and Musgrove. C Perez can get some nice stats with a few scoreless innings

Very interesting the Rays acquired a 25 year old AAA catcher. Could signal a Ramos trade.

Ramos is on the DL until early August at least, so they need someone who could play now anyways, and it's not like they expect Ramos to be the future.

What do you suppose it would take to get Chris Archer?

Has his cost come down enough to be gettable with Alvarez as the main piece?

Might not be intuitive, but I’m worried about Lance’s innings. And I’ve had a trade boner for Archer forever.

    Phrasing.

Do you know the circumstances of Osuna's case? I dont.

I believe in second chances. Has anybody ever given you a second chance in life?

The Yanks trading for Chapman despite his legal issues, then trading him to the Cubs (Where he helped them win a WS for the first time in a Century) then Chapman re-signing with the Yanks is a big reason why the Yanks are where they are today. If you want to play with the big boys (Yanks/Red Sox/Indians/Dodgers/Cubs) you have to do things the big boys do. However unpleasant that may be.

Depending on what I find out about Osuna, (If it's nothing to bad) I wouldn't let this stand in the way of giving me my best shot at another WS title.

    Quoted for truth.

There sure are some self righteous posters on this MB.

Are the Astros' currently not "playing with the big boys?"

Can a player be dealt on the DL? Didn’t think the players union allowed it

Not that we have any need for him, but Archer has been awful this season. And hasn’t been really solid for a couple seasons.

What's with Astros fans' obsession with Archer? If we get him, he'd probably be our 6th best starter. Seriously, he's overrated, and I wasn't a fan of trading for him last winter. C and RP are our biggest needs, and just because he's "under team control for a while" doesn't mean he's that great. And look, feel free to disagree, but Realmuto would be a BIG help. C has been a hole in the lineup, and McCann will be gone after this year (if he's even healthy enough to return). And he is truly one of the most elite catchers in the league right now. And yes, while we did win last year we struggled against NYY, and they've only gotten better since, and we lost the regular season series 5-2. We can't stand pat while everyone else gets better if we're truly serious about winning.
