So Giles, Fisher, and Perez for Inglesisas? That might work. Giles I think would have more value this summer....but if the Reds took that, I would jump on it.
If I were the Reds I would try to get Fisher and two pitchers that are pretty projectable. I would ask for Martin and Perez and ultimately settle for Fisher, Cionel Perez and Hector Perez. The Reds can develop bats but not pitching. Both Perez' have a solid chance to be big league contributors and Fisher still has a 50/50 chance of being a big league starter.
Do you think that Giles is better than Iglesias? If you had a playoff game tomorrow and had to have someone close, would you pick Devo or Rondon over Iglesias? Wouldn't you like to have Rondon available in the 8th inning?
You don't know that he is healthy. If the Astros get Realmuto or Ramos, one of McCann/Stassi won't make the series roster.
This. His spike in HR/9 is concerning, as I've said before. And no way do I trade Cionel Perez, let alone for someone who is overrated and barely an upgrade (if at all) over Giles. Realmuto is the way to go, as I've said. Kills two birds (catcher and bat) with one stone. I'm increasingly confident with Rondon as closer, plus LMJ/Morton joins the bullpen in the postseason. But another bullpen arm preferably left handed, would be nice, especially if Hinch isn't confident with Perez for the playoffs. So trade for Realmuto and Conley, and call it a deadline. I'm willing to include Alvarez (or hell, possibly even Whitley) in the trade, just do not touch Tucker, Perez, and Martin. Side note: Surpised Boston, and not the Yankees, got Eovaldi, given the latter's bigger need for SP.
Yes, I’d take Rondon over him. Better numbers this season and throughout his career as a closer. Of all the heat on Giles, he is 12 for 12 in save opportunities and hasn’t allowed a run in any of those appearances. I can’t explain why his psyche is different when entering games in other scenarios
With Britton off the board, I'm leaning toward Realmuto + Conley/Barraclugh. Barraclough has had a few recent struggles, but maybe that will just bring his price down. I honestly can't think of any other realistic deal worth making that would improve our team.
How do the Astros manage four catchers on the roster? Realmuto, Stassi, McCann & Gattis None can be optioned. Stassi is the best framer in baseball this year who would be about even in power numbers with the same amount of AB’s as Realmuto and he’s got 4+ years of team control. As a starter he’s still very good as a reserve he’s probably the best in the game. Gattis is one of the best power bats on the team and should have the DH spot locked for the season. McCann has a 2.47 team ERA and his presence is what most of the guys contribute to winning the championship I’m all for a Realmuto Trade but the timing of it now doesn’t work.
A step below what Britton was, but a legit closer, and a solid postseason resume in his limited innings. I don't know about the domestic violence incident.
I believe in redemption, and I believe an incident shouldn't dictate your life. What his actions were and if they were isolated or not matters to me. My dad was arrested for domestic violence for pushing my stepmom away. If that is the case, I certainly think he's served more than enough punishment. If he went Greg Hardy on her, he belongs in prison.
I’d rather have Steckenrider than Conley or Barraclough. Acquiring Realmuto, Dietrich, and Steckenrider would solve a lot of problems for Houston, both this season and next. Alvarez, C Martin, C Perez, Alcala, Giles, and James might be close; solves a lot of Miami’s pitching problems and gives them a potential superstar bat.
I really hope not. Astros wont come close to finding a backup catcher as good as Stassi and with all the team control Rather chase Realmuto this winter along with Ramos as a FA. Or just keep Stassi. Either way it’s still the best lineup in baseball
That’s cool So don’t condemn me for not wanting a guy who accepted a 75 game ban for domestic abuse on the team I love to root for. I can’t get behind guys like that just because they have a god given talent As I said earlier, to each their own
I completely agree with this. If they feel like McCann is going to be healthy we won’t be adding a catcher unless it’s a cheap veteran to back up Stassi until McCann is ready. I think Luhnow, AJ and the pitchers value McCann highly. Now if they do not think he is going to be ready to go then I think there is a good chance of adding someone in the next week
If the Astros get Realmuto or Ramos, they don’t believe McCann will be healthy. Having one of those two healthy and off the roster isn’t the type of move we will make
