I agree about $20 mil for both. But I would have taken Luc at $4.5mil. He was great when he started here. Especially with proper time to heal that shoulder. Ariza at $15mil is crazy
For all the people down on the Melo acquisition, just think about the times when Ariza, Anderson, etc would pump fake the semi open three then put the ball on the floor. Do you remember that cringing feeling?
Even though I'm skeptical about Melo, I will welcome him with open arms, if he decides to join our Houston Rockets.
We won 65 games and almost dethroned the Warriors. The league was fortunate that CP3s hamstring went out otherwise the Rockets would have won the championship. Regardless of our role players short comings, they gave us everything, especially Ariza. I'm not as optimistic about Melo so my hope is that I'm eating crow this whole season.
The whole Melo/Ariza/LRMM to me comes down to the fact that Morey chose Melo to come and Ariza and Luc to leave. The Rockets are the ones with info on players the public do not. I trust their judgement on evaluation more than my own even though I would’ve definitely preferred retaining both and let Melo go elsewhere. It’s funny how Morey gets Executive of the Year and now everyone thinks he’d bad at making personnel decisions
Funny how they keep saying he's going to be sharing the floor with CP3 and Harden without acknowledging how MDA rotates the two of them. Melo will likely be sharing the court with 1 majority of the time(likely Paul) and that alone should help him get his shots and stay engaged. When he is on the court with Harden he can space the floor, set picks and pop out while Harden drives or post up occasionally. Its like they've taken little time to do any research on how guys play ball.
Let it not be said Morey doesn’t get his man. After a decade of pursuing Carmelo Anthony, Daryl is on The verge of getting him.
It's his first full run with Fertita. We don't know what's going on in the background. Melo sells tickets, increases visibility, creates buzz -- for cheap. Ariza and Luc - boring role players. Just speculation. But you never know. I personally wouldn't put my blind faith in the organization. Not yet. Need to see more.
I'd like to put faith in the idea that CP will try his best to Melo in level headed, or as level headed as possible.
Melo can attack those close outs at All-Star levels vs Ryan/Ariza. I mean, the high PnR with Harden and Ryan or Ariza with Capela camped at the far short-corner is going to be MUCH, MUCH better with Melo. Where they hedge on Harden and recover to Ryan/Ariza, Melo will take the Pop pass and drive, with Capela freezing the big for fear of an oop. Melo then has a 10' Jumper or can go all the way. That's just one play. We are finnin' to see, for the first time in a long time, what a Catch n Shoot SF/PF can do when he can also Catch n Drive....vs pump fake and pass back to Harden... If I told you we'd go 4-1 and 4-1 against two WC playoff teams without Luc (or a negative vs Utah), would you continue saying how important he was to some of our regular season success? That's an 80% winning percentage in the playoffs. That's what I'd like to ask the talking heads who say Luc/Ariza will cause a huge dropoff. The *only* thing that matters wrt Luc is his value to us vs GSW, because we proved in the 1st and 2nd round that we don't need him vs the rest of the West.
Or every time Ariza dribbled or went down the lane thinking he was Jordan! I love Ariza but I think Carmelo is gonna do well !!!!
Negative. Apparently it means we considered Luc damaged goods and anything above Vet Min would not have been worth the signing, in their opinion. We'll have to use the wait and see approach in order to find out if it was a good decision or not. When Harden, Paul, and (eventually) Capela take up more than 50% of your roster salaries, you take as much cap room or signing flexibility as you can get. Especially with the albatross contract of Ryno still lingering around.
how much money we are giving him, if minimum, i'd welcome him, as long as he is in rockets uniform i will support him, but he has to learn to play some D first to get heavy minutes, i don't want to see GSW getting easy buckets in his face again and again in a tight playoff game next year
