For those that are still pining for Luc and wonder why we couldn't have brought him back for the MLE......when did Luc get surgery on that shoulder?
You guys. The Rockets probably feared Luc's shoulder situation. They did say they want to get younger, so if you sign some of these 2nd-round keepers, it needs to be to three year deals. So that MLE gets split among Melton, Hartenstein, maybe someone else.
Luc played well in the regular season before his first injury. We could of really used that "Luc" against the Warriors. He really did play extremely well when he was healthy.
Horrendously stupid logic. You get what you pay for. Ennis, Anthony, and Carter-Williams all suck ass. Luc and Ariza absolutely do not.
But what is the chance you get THAT Luc back? Its an injury that will keep happening with his style of play. He's not effective off the cut if he doesn't slam it down. If he does slam it then he's worried about the shoulder popping out again. And when he's injured we are stuck.... So now we have Ennis who may not produce AS MUCH (still yet to be determined) but he cost us less.
You plan on making these moves with what cap space/assets? At this point we are not in the position to make any moves unless we unload Gordon, which makes us weaker. You improve your team talent any way possible until Morey is able to finesse a team in a trade with Ryno. There isn’t a way you can label Melo at the vet min a bad get.
Ariza and Luc were definitely worth their previous contracts. I agree 100%. But their new contracts, on this team? NO WAY! 15 MM to Ariza on a championship caliber team?
We are OVER the cap. Who cares about saving money other than the lying owner? We could've slightly overpaid Ariza and gave Luc a great deal for the MLE. With Harden, CP3 and Capela's contracts there is no room. Hell even ignoring Capela there isn't.
I tend to agree with @The Cat that they likely would have been more aggressive about keeping Ariza had they know they couldn't keep Luc. They probably thought they'd keep him at the non-bird right number and then it made sense not to pay Ariza $15 million. In the end it doesn't matter anymore.
Luc sucked ass after his injury. He didn't even play at times he was so bad. Ariza shot 0 points in game 7 and surely isn't worth 15m. Ennis sucks? Based on what logic? He's a solid defender too and avg about 8pts a game.
He has nowhere else to go. His stock is at an all time low like Ryno's except the Hawks will be paying for his giant contract instead of Tilman. If Morey can somehow package Ryno for a player who can help us in the playoffs before the dead, we'll still have a good chance in the playoffs.
It actually is. 8M for Ariza was a seriously good deal even before the cap jump. He's legitimately worth around 12-13m now easily.
