They were confident a year ago too. I'm sure they will sign him, but in what season?

Not sure how you missed it. I don’t think you read close enough. It’s been posted several times. The same poster you initially quoted was going off the tweet that had him included. He literally didn’t change anything OKC was reported to be getting.

The Rockets can offer one Ryan Anderson for Bazemore.

I think Melo would be good in this system. With CP and James doing all of the creating, he would be getting the ball in scoring positions. OKC made the mistake (like NY for all those years) of trying to give him the ball to create offense. He is a ball stopper with diminishing speed. He is still a very good shooter when in rhythm. the video shows his shooting (quick trigger) skill. He, like CP, are good mid-range shooters. CP is better at it off the dribble, but Melo can move through the offense to get his looks. Melo still has the ability to score in bunches and that would require defenses to pay attention to him on the floor which creates spacing for CP and James.

I know someone who makes 40 million over the next two seasons who might fit really well in Sacramento if they don't blow their wad on Bjelica, ahem....

Sounds like they want to dump that money though, not replace it.

look, if OKC can get someone decent or serviceable, why wouldn't they trade melo instead of letting him loose for nothing.

They aren't trying to get someone decent here. Even in these alleged talks they are trying to ship Schroeder off to a third team.

They are trying to clear as much salary as possible.

Atlanta can't just outright absorb Melo so they'd need to send salary back. OKC will try to ship off that salary to a third team to whatever extent they can.

Looks like Sacramento is close to signing Bjelica to a $6 MM per year deal, leaving them with $14 MM in space. Enough to execute this deal
    http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8ryvpf8

    OKC trades Melo for Schoeder
ATL trades Schroeder and Bazemore for Melo and Koufos
    SAC trades Koufos for Anderson
    HOU trades Anderson for Bazemore

OKC saves an ungodly amount on this year's tax bill and takes a flier on a young, explosive PG. They have the organizational stability to take that risk.
ATL offloads a malcontent and LT money for an expiring deal. Melo gets bought out.
SAC takes on a hefty deal but gets compensated with picks galore.
HOU trades a non-factor on a bad deal for a rotation piece on a bad deal. Also facilities Melo getting bought out and signing with them.

ATL, OKC, and HOU all stand to materially benefit from this deal. Potentially all 3 could throw picks to SAC to help push this deal through. ATL has been rumored to be willing to attach an asset to get rid of Schroeder, and they'd get rid of Bazemore's deal too! OKC saves a bunch. We net out two rotation pieces, so I'd be willing to throw in a future 1st for that.

I suppose SAC could take on Bazemore instead of Anderson, but neither move the needle for them, and they'd get an additional pick by looping us into the deal.

Alternatively, if OKC is dead-set on minimizing salary, they could route Schroeder to SAC (with a pick) and take on ZBo/Shumpert. SAC could then end up with picks from all three teams!

    Thoughts?
