The Rockets would get a trade exception which would be very valuable in a trade.

If you'd like to see a longer thread, trying to explain (from Sacramento's perspective) why they might facilitate a Carmelo deal, see <https://usat.ly/2Lw68gd>.

Ariza at $15 would have been an expiring deal. I don't see the problem with expiring deals. You're up 3-2 against GSW. Go all in.

i don't see our 1st round picks the next 2 years as being valuable. In fact, one could argue that early 2nd round picks are more valuable. So if moving anderson gives us better flexibility in the future and saves Tilman a bunch of money, i guess it's not a huge cost to pay. But i'm assuming with the impending capela signing, it's really not gonna make much of a difference in terms of our cap flexibility.

You know you are the Kings when you are making moves to put yourself in position to get Ryan Anderson.

bc it wouldnt have been $15M... with luxury taxes and repeat offender charges we're talkin like $30M+... If yer Morey, are you gonna try to sell your new boss on that? Keeping in mind he just ponyed up 4/160 for CP3... and re-signed GG for the min - who as I understand it, was just sitting on his couch when we called... lol
These aren't just numbers - they are real money to his pocketbook... dont kill the golden goose.

It would have limited us moving into the trade deadline. Morey will remain on the prowl

I wouldn't be surprised if the Kings asked for our second round picks, and then asked if Morey can help evaluate talent and pick the players for them.

I see now. I was thinking in the context of the OP which says:

"Houston would be looking for a team to dump Ryan Anderson on that could ease the path to sign Carmelo Anthony.”

Which implies that we'd sign Melo, not receive him. And I hope THATs true because Melo at $6M or whatever is significantly better than Melo at $27M. And if it is true, I'm guessing it means we trade Anderson to Sac for a different piece, and then sign Melo who will just be waived outright by OKC.

Man, a $20 million trade exception would be a huge score.

I have my eyes on you Kent Bazemore. Can you imagine Kent Bazemore, PJTucker & James Ennis the Menace after Jeffy B gets his hands on them? Holy crap that defense!!!

So the Rockets give up 2 1st round picks to get this trade exception. Then they trade more 1st round picks to pick up a good player capable of being successful against the Warriors? Essentially that's trading at least 3 1st round picks for like a 5th starter/bench player.

Whatever else Morey may be, he's definitely not the kind of GM who would give up that many picks for a role player.

We have a 2 year window with CP3 and Harden playing in their primes. You better beilive Morey with do what it take to maximize their window.

Morey didn’t going to let a couple of last first rounders come between him and even a chance at the WCF again

Well if we're giving away 3 1st rounder that 3rd one is going to be good.

So there are several possibilities here. One is that Tilman Fertilla will not pay the luxury tax in which case we'll trade Ryan Anderson for nothing and be done with it. Making the TE worthless. Another is that our new owner is willing to spend money, in which case the more prudent thing is to trade Ryan Anderson for bad contracts (but players more suitable to play against the Warriors) from other teams and upgrade the team via spending. The latter is better than TE because you can aggregate salaries within 25% or so, instead of having the TE be the absolute cap in salary matching. There is another possibility, which I outlined earlier in this thread, in a 3-way deal where the Rockets trade Anderson to Sacramento, a 3rd team trades some amount of players to the Rockets, presumably on mediocre/bad contracts, and picks go to Sacramento. This would also be much more preferable to TE that people are clamoring.

Getting a starter for three late first round picks is a pretty good deal. It’s pretty rare a late first rounder even becomes a rotation player.

When was the last time the Rockets/Morey used a trade exception?

    Lin's? Asik's?

Or you want to count it back to the Dawson era?

Morey attempted to trade for Koufos 18 months ago and Shumpert 12 months ago. Koufos is 29 and Shumpert is 28.

Your not doing a good job of providing evidence for your premise.
