The organization's perspective is to win. They aren't going to win with a core of LMA + DeRozan, not while GS is dominant. They sure as hell aren't going to even beat the Lakers. "Awesome idea to get the guy who choked against Lebron in the playoffs last year. Good move everyone." And they'd be punishing Kawai by using his own selfish behavior against him. Don't want to play this year? Ok get fined and suspended by the league etc and ruin your reputation. And those players from LA (ingram/hart) have a higher ceiling than DeRozan.

Reports that kwahi and De-frozen are both unhappy. Demarr Says Toronto LIED to him etc. Smh looks bad on the organazation. This is why CP3 got the MAX. Anything with the Rockets especially backing out a verbal agreement would be magnified!

Despite being eligible to receive a five-year super max extension this summer worth $221 million from the Spurs, Leonard wanted out of San Antonio for myriad reasons. He felt betrayed by the team for the handling of the quadriceps injury that kept him out of all but nine games last season -- plus, Leonard's camp believes the Spurs misdiagnosed a 2014 wrist injury as well -- in addition to resistance encountered from the franchise when seeking outside opinions. Not to mention what seemed to be public questioning of the situation by members of the organization, with sources saying the forward had been medically cleared to play since December.

There were Popovich's constant referrals to Leonard and his "group," biting comments from Parker, who said his own ruptured quadriceps injury the season prior was "100 times worse," as well as the team's players-only meeting with Leonard in March, in which the forward felt ambushed by teammates at Popovich's behest.

"I don't know when he and his group are going to feel like they are ready to go," Popovich said in April. "When he and his group feel ready, then he'll be ready."

The franchise harbored some ill-will, too, but considered Leonard such an important commodity it was willing to work through the difficult times toward resolution. The Spurs disliked ceding control in August of Leonard's medical care to outside doctors and were miffed by the handling of the entire situation by the forward's representation -- namely uncle Dennis Robertson -- who, like Leonard, didn't necessarily excel in the communication department, according to sources.

On more than one occasion, Popovich begged Leonard to let him announce to the media that the forward would be forced to sit out the season due to his injury, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. Believing he'd eventually return, Leonard declined each time, leaving Popovich to field queries from the media that he couldn't definitively answer. Popovich simply didn't know.

Leonard left the team on two occasions last season to rehab in New York with members of the Spurs rehabilitation staff in tow to work in concert with the forward's outside medical personnel, utilizing its rehab program.

The Spurs still believed the relationship was worth salvaging, and Popovich traveled to Southern California ahead of the NBA draft to meet with Leonard as a first step toward reconciliation.

so what. there isn't a move that makes them at GS level. atleast they get a all star player in DD who's still in his prime at 28 to go along with Pop.

and no none of those players atm have a higher ceiling. theyve done absolutely 0 thus far. impressed by summer league play? give me a break.

DeRozan certainly is an all-star and that would make him a star. Also a team should get "vengeance" on a player instead of just ridding themselves of the plague with a good return in trade?

Stop overreacting then coming on here with your clearly recycled opinions.

I'm finding it hard to have a take. I'd be "drooling" most if the Rockets got him (ha!) then the Clippers. Second would probably be Philly, then Boston. My focus is what's best for the Rockets,,,which means both Spurs and Lakers not getting what they want...ie, somewhere he will stay, on a team who is either in the East or won't contend for awhile.

Glad Pops got no serious picks...and an old-school shot selection player, I suppose.

Hard to see a new coach (Nurse) being able to get Toronto to the Finals. Maybe. I think Kawhi will like Lowry though.

So, I guess you're saying Pops didn't live up to this comment one week ago?

Obviously, Pops needs to make the best trade for the Spurs, not Kawhi. But, maybe there *was* an arguably better one out there.

My money is on Pop turning Demar into an All-NBA defensive player and the Spurs winning 50 games getting the 5th seed.

The plague would rid itself since it doesn't even want to sit on the bench, let alone play for the team. Derozan is a so called "All-Star" in the east playing against chump competition. He will be lucky to be an all-star reserve this upcoming season. They are getting something in return on the surface only. In substance, they are gaining nothing.

    Recycled? I think not.

This deal reeks of spite by Buford and Popovich.

Leonard sits out half of last year because he felt like it.

The Spurs offer him the max, he not only declines but demands a trade. Not only does he demand a trade but to 2 possible teams. When the Spurs start talking to other teams Leonard sabotages his trade value by claiming there is zero chance he resigns and demands a deal to the Lakers. The Lakers low ball the Spurs, offering ****. The Lakers then claim they will just sign him as a free agent (after seeing Paul George blow up in their face). Leonard refuses to meet Popovich man to man. Leonard’s agent uncle meets with Popovich and demands a trade.

Leonard leaks everything to Chris Carter. Kawhi Leonard leaks that Popovich will trade him and where it makes him happy.... which is a further effort to erode his trade value so the Lakers can get him cheap.

Popovich and Buford give Leonard the middle finger and deal him to the exact opposite of LA... Toronto in the winter. Spurs likely take less to send him to Toronto or the Lakers are really low balling the Spurs.

Either way.... good for Popovich. This isn’t how you handle business on the part of Leonard.

Still I am rooting for Leonard to to fall for Toronto and resign. The Lakers can settle for resigning Rondo and over paying other role players.

Have fun in the snow Kawhi... SUCKER

I feel bad for Dwane Casey. You get fired, then Lebron goes to the west and now Kawhi is on the Raptors. That sux for him.

I have seen what DeRozan is capable of, and that's not carrying his team to anything appreciable in the playoffs.

Demar posted 7 hrs ago on Instagram “be told one thing and the outcome another. Can’t trust em. Ain’t no loyalty in this game. Sell you out quick for a little bit of nothing.

And he deleted all his posts, since he battles with depression, hope he turns out okay, he’s a cool guy, great player and one of Hardens closest friends.

Cris Carter got some bad info/bad sources :D

“Kawhi, in meeting with Pop, Pop gave him every indication that he was going to trade him and he was going to try to make Kawhi happy,” Carter said. “I never said that before, because I was holding it until now. So, all these discussions about Kawhi going to the East, I believe Popovich is trying to accommodate Kawhi and trying to please him.”

“Nothing’s changed from Kawhi’s side from these standpoints: He still wants to go to Los Angeles, and he’s still not interested in being rented out for one season,” Carter said. “So that being Philadelphia, Boston, Toronto or any other team. The thing that we should know is San Antonio has been in contact with Kawhi and his people, and they’ve told them that if something was to get real, real close, we’ll reach out to you. Well, it’s in their best interest and smart to reach out to him, and typically the other team that’s involved in the trade would be granted permission to reach out to the player that’s being traded. None of those things happened yesterday.”
