This is why everybody should be worried about the behavior of the FBI and DoJ on many instances recently. It may seem fine when it works in your favor...that that knife cuts both ways. Much better to have the two not involved politically, and to scream about it when it occurs. Our Justice system NEEDS to be apolitical, regardless of who is in power.

I agree with this. And the questionable actions of FBI leadership in Washington goes back a LONG ways.

Last night, I was rewatching a 2002 Frontline Documentary about former FBI agent John P. O'neill called "The Man who knew". To make a long story short, O'neill was the FBI agent who first recognized the threat of Al Queda and did everything possible to sound the alarm bell at the FBI in the late 1990's. He was even the Commander in charge of the bombing of the USS Cole in 2000 and was working to interview a guy in Yemen who was connected to 2 of the 9/11 hijackers. He was THAT CLOSE to discovering the plot in advance and yet...

At every turn, politics at the Washington HQ of the FBI got in his way. First in trying to create a division separate from the criminal division worthy of the growing threat of Islamic terrorism. Later his investigation of the Cole bombing was stopped cold by politics stemming from the ambassador of Yemen complaining to the FBI HQ and their subsequent revoking of his passport. Lastly, in the summer of 2001 HQ leadership leaked the OPR's investigation of O'neill that essentially ended his 25 year career there in August 2001. Subsequently, he became the director of security for the World Trade Center for approximately 2 weeks and he died in Tower 2 in the collapse.

You know that won't happen... remember they're still blaming "muh Russia" for their shitty campaign after all.

It IS interesting and sad but I would propose to you it's part of even very healthy orgs of such a large size.

I've interviewed Apollo engineers who raised alarms about the capsule oxygen before the 1967 deadly fire on the pad, and shuttle engineers who predicted solid rocket failures. But there are so many voices clamoring for so many would-be emergencies amid natural layers of bureaucracy that some things always get lost. Some voices loose in the cost-benefit convos at higher levels.

Love Front Line, by the way. Their shows on Putin are fascinating too.

And yet you show no worry about the behavior of Russia and our President's favoritism towards him over our allies.

You people don't care if another country is manipulating ours so long as your party is the beneficiary.

I don't disagree, B-bob, BUT would you agree that such things are often a problem, and should be called out and fixed, particularly in our government?

The goal of a bureaucracy is to preserver the bureaucracy. We the people need to make sure it's actually helping the people, not itself.

As I think Trump is discovering, the 'swamp' is all encompassing, and involves pretty much everyone associated with government. This is why every administration who says they will be the most transparent administration ever always fails in that goal. The establishment has zero interest in letting the people know how it really works.

On the first, yes, I agree w you.

On the second, I see 45 as less a warrior against entrenched interest and more as a mafia type, frustrated by the government's few mechanisms of enforcing any kind of ethics at all. Just how it appears to me.

But you are trying to take something that is very bad - radioactive bad - in Trump and justify it by saying, "oh hey everyone is bad" even though the other side is a few order of magnitude less.

I mean, really, what Trump is doing is undermining American democracy in order to serve his personal interests - you have to be utterly stupid to think that he is not giving favoritism to Putin and getting something in return that is related to his pocketbook.

Then I think you don't understand how government actually works. Even those who complain about the swamp have no idea how bad it actually is.

Completely preposterous. Trump has gone out of his way to select people who are undermining government from within. He's never had any intention of transparency and goes out of his way to shun it. Get off bullshit mountain and join reality.
