Ha, far from it. Look, it’s very possible that Melo might not work out here. I’m not going fanboy on this, I’m well aware of the risk. There were issues in OKC that were at least partly his responsibility. I just think for the 1-year price, and how insane the Warriors could be post-Boogie, that you have to be open to taking risks. FWIW, for those who listen to LOR, I became more open to the concept of Melo when I had Brian Geltzeiler (someone I really respect, nationally) on during the playoffs. I asked him after OKC’s elimination whether Melo was a bullet dodged for the Rockets or if he was misused in OKC. I expected his answer to be the former, but it was much more of the latter (I replayed the segment on last Friday’s show, and he was particularly harsh on Billy Donovan). I still don’t know for a fact how Melo would/will turn out here, but that’s when I started wondering. And now on July 11, with most MLE candidates off the board and the Warriors with Boogie? And the Rockets having lost 2 rotation players from the squad that had the chemistry to win 65? Yeah, it’s worth the risk. Circumstances change.
Hey there mr. positive Obviously he’s been around but based on his stats and film he’s obviously not terrible. He may do well in our system and his defense is a plus
We have a small expiring right now in Onuaku that's useless If he plays well, opts out and leaves we're right back where we are now It's a great one year deal, but there's a reason Morey hates player options.
Nanu's expiring isn't worthless at all. He will very likely be a key piece in a trade before the deadline. Have you been paying attention the last few years? Sheesh. It's like playing cards with my Sister's kids.
I’m only continuing this conversation because used my favorite movie quote... Simple yes or no... does Morey like player options? Why can’t you just agree that player options suck
Dragic left the Rockets after Morey refused to give him a players option. He went on to have his best season with the Suns.
More like: Harden/Green CP3/MKG/Melton Gordon/Ennis Melo/Tucker Capela/Ryno/Nene EGo will be starting at 2 and Harden likely to see more minutes at 3 if Ryno not traded before season. Green would back up Beard while Ennis/Melton backs up EGo.
Morey also never gave 4-year contract to role players. And he did to Ryan Anderson probably because he had to to get him to sign. There's a reason why Morey has been very good overall. He sticks to his principles. When he deviates from them, the results aren't that good. But desperate time requires desperate measure, I guess. Good thing, a vet min contract is nowhere near as high risk as a 80M/4year contract. I have a feeling that Ennis will outperform his contract by a mile and we'll either let him walk after one year like Moute or we'll have to pay him a lot more.
How would his role on the Rockets be different? I assume he would fulfill Ryno's role on the team with the difference being that he can improvise/hit mid-range shots if run off the 3-point line. However, I don't really know his game (certainly as of late). I apologize if this has been covered in a prior post. Feel free to point me to the appropriate post.
