Where did I say he pitched well? I said he pitched well enough to protect a four run lead had he come in the inning clean.
Britton is a big boy closer if he is healthy. Lance may be available, but if DK doesn’t magically improve, starting him in a playoff game against NY or BOS is suicide. There are better options than Ken Giles or Hector Rondon available.
He did not pitch well at all. The fact that he was coming into a pressure situation should have had him better focused, rather than throwing wild pitches, back-up cement mixing sliders, and balls down the middle of the plate.
Not sure how many relievers in all of baseball have been better than McHugh this year...it’s a damn short list
Exactly so let’s quit talking about how he’s good in save situations because it’s useless then. I think we’re on the same page here but saying it a different way - he’s absolutely worthless if he isn’t a closer and I’d be all for a change of scenery at this point for him. He won’t be a closer again on this team and he doesn’t deserve to be.
Britton isn’t what he once was... but pretty sure they can get him without giving up a boatload. Anybody else available? Honestly, they’re going to end up pitching whichever of Lance/Charlie/Cole.... even if they end up acquiring an upgrade.
If indeed he said that then I would trade him for a bag of peanuts or send him down and call up someone more deserving. Bring up Reymin Guduan and send Giles down.
Well, on this team... he’s still going to get save situations because Rondon is also not that good. Neither is Harris, Peacock, Smith, or Sipp. McHugh is literally the only one Hinch is going to be able to trust... and he’s seen an Elarton-like uptick in his usage lately.
You literally just said he’s pitched above his head (which is true) and I think everyone knows he isn’t the long term solution as a closer. So yes, I stand by my statement that he’s better at lower pressure situations such as coming in with a four run lead.
Keuchel has shown signs of being better lately, it certainly isn’t crazy to think he can start a game of a big series. He would certainly match up with the guys Boston and NY has pitching 4th And if Keuchel implodes in the second half Peacock could easily go back to the rotation I don’t think Giles will be on the team much less closing And as I’ve said if the cost isn’t significant I’d take a shot on Britton, but everyone keeps talking about needing a sure thing at the end of the pen, Britton is far from a sure thing at this point And if I’m Baltimore I’m waiting as long as possible to move him hoping he shows well and increases his value
If you’re calling him a closer that’s a different issue - he’s not and he wasn’t brought in to be one. He’s become one because the one we traded several top prospects (yes they busted) for is a f***** nutcase.
If Giles indeed told Hinch to self fornicate that coupled with the self inflicted face punch earlier this year shows this dude isn't stable. We couldn't get a bag of peanuts for him. Just the shells.
