Or you could just look at the very large sample size of how well he does in save situations... vs the now growing large sample size of how he does in every other situation. The playoffs featured meltdowns from nearly every closer... along with saves (including Giles getting game 1 of the ALCS and game 4 of the ALDS). I agree, if he’s not going to be consistent on days where he needs work to stay sharp, they’re going to look for an upgrade. As it is, he’s not going to be on this team next year thanks to an expected arbitration raise.
You watching the same game? He gave up two hits and struck out two...he gave up one run. Yeah he wasn’t great but he wasn’t bad enough to blow a four run lead.
Morton will be the Astros 3rd starter and McCullers likely their 4th.. I wouldn’t count on both of them being available. Dallas K isn’t going to start against the Yankees or Red Sox. Just pay the prospect price and get a big boy closer.
The two hits, with men on base, led to blowing the lead. The Simeon hit, with 2 outs, was lucky it wasn’t in the Crawford boxes. The bottom line is neither Giles or Rondon are approaching the upper half of elite closers in baseball. Rondon has had a nice run, but if there’s a bottom to fall out from, he’s got a ton of regression expected to come his way.
Yes. Runner does not score from first on the double, his WP put him on 2B. He threw meat to Olson (with a 1-2 count). He threw meat to Chapman (got the K, should have been drilled). He threw meat to Semien (was drilled). He did not pitch well at all.
Who would that be What would you offer for Chapman, Kimbrell, Jansen? And I totally disagree, unless there is a big revaluation in the pen Lance or Charlie will be down there, most likely Lance
Ya I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt after that first run but the rest was on him. To toss a wild pitch in that situation was absolute garbage. Dammit what a frustrating yet 100% predictable and preventable turn of events.
Like who? Also, if those guys are starting the 3rd or 4th game, they’re going to be available in the pen in games 6 and/or 7. Even Giles saved game 1 of the ALCS.... they’re not going to abandon the bullpen altogether, but you know they’re going to rely on starters to close or pitch high leverage innings.
I don't know about the whole being optioned options when it comes to baseball, but can Giles not be optioned at this point? Let him dwell down there in Corpus or some ****, he doesn't deserve to be on this team right now.
Yes, the playoffs featured every closer having meltdowns but he became LITERALLY unpitchable. They quit using him. What other closer can say that? Regardless, you’re missing my point...I don’t care how he is in save situations and he doesn’t deserve to be the closer. You want to be the closer again? Start by not routinely blowing four run leads. Maybe lower that 5 ERA of yours. I’m sick of the argument that “he’s good in save situations”...I don’t want someone on my team who doesn’t give it their all everytime out.
We all saw it happening, as soon as it was 4-2 those tying runs were 100% coming in to score. Frustrating to see it, and yet know there is nothing we can do about it.
