They’re not even that... they’re “giving him work” outings, which never seem to work. I’d rather a rusty Giles come into a save situation... then a non-chalant Giles being brought in just to get work. If Hinch is treating it as a “get some work in” outing... Giles seems to mentally check in (or out) as well... just stupidly frustrating that this is the THIRD exact situation this year where he brings him in with a 4 run lead to get work, and it totally backfires.
What do we lose by cutting him. Dude does not have it. He might have a 100mph fast ball but it fools no one.
Hey it could be worse. Indians were up 4-0 in the T9 with 2 outs and ended up losing 7-4 after 9 lol. Does Rondon get the blown save instead of Giles? That's tough...
I'm glad this is happening now. This was talked about before the schedule turned into a total joke. Our bullpen was garbage against good teams in clutch situations. Everyone got all chummy with the pen again because we played the worst teams in the American League for a month. We aren't repeating again with this bullpen. Giles and Harris need to be upgraded.
I’m not opposed to that. His attitude annoys TF out of me and this whole “he doesn’t take it seriously in a non save situation” is the exact type of guy I don’t want on my team. I want the McHughs who did nothing to deserve being booted from the rotation and then puts up a 0.86 era
(Unless its a save situation).... ducking for cover, shutting the door, turning out the lights on this string... It really is the most bipolar of situations I’ve ever seen.
Rondon wouldn’t have blown the four run lead let’s be real. Edit: Had he been brought in a clean inning.
Yeah... I really trust this bullpen in a playoff game against NY or BOS in the 9th with a one or two run lead....
Peacock trending down... Joe Smith has not been consistent this year... Rondon due for some regression. Is it really just Tony Sipp and McHugh?
This whole save situation BS narrative is stupid. I don’t care what the numbers say...we saw him wilt away under the pressure during the playoffs last year. And his attitude is not worth the “well he’s been good in save situations” talk.
This bullpen? No... Lance McCullers and Charlie Morton, sure..... with Cole warming up if its a game 7.
This is utterly pathetic that we are even batting right now. Hinch has to know that Giles is completely ineffective in non save situations. This is why our record is below where it should be.
