Here's what's going to happen guys, in steps: 1. we sign & trade Capela to the Spurs with Gordon and Llull's rights 2. we sign Melo for the minimum 3. we sign Ennis for the minimum 4. we sign Ellington with the MLE 5. three team trade with Atlanta and Phoenix: - Atlanta gets: Anderson, 2nd rounder, cash and Nanu - Phoenix gets: Nene and 2nd rounder - Houston gets: Bazemore and Chandler Chandler/Hartenstein Melo/PJ Leonard/Bazemore Harden/Ellington Paul/Melton @Morey
I'll play: 1) Ennis accepts by tomorrow the min 2) Melo MLE 3) Melton gets part of the MLE for a 3 year 4) Anderson + Gordon + 1st for Butler and Dieng 5) Capela takes the QO Paul/Harden/MCW Harden/Green/Melton Butler/Ennis/Edwards Melo/Tucker/Qi Capela/Dieng/Nene
Signing Ennis for vet min does not preclude Rockets from signing Melo. It's not either or proposition.
This type of off-season is why I get that some people have a big problem with guys like Morey. What a cold piece of ****, lowballing our players as usual and thinking players can just be replaced like car parts. Letting go of Luc & Ariza shows he doesn't care for much for chemistry and still sees players as assets. Star players and chasing them at all costs again. Cyberx, please tell us Melo will got to LA.
Let's get the first three done and worry about the next two after. I'd have to imagine that Morey is packaging Ryno/Gordon/picks for that third star (taking back a Dieng type of contract too) like you've stated. It's July 10th and I think Rockets will be ready for anyone come playoffs. More cohesion.
Then go root for Brooklyn, or Detroit, or Sacramento, or Atlanta, or Washington or some other team that throws around money like buffoons without a plan. On one end, you'll curse Morey for signing Ryno to his deal, and on the other end, you'll call him a cold piece of **** for not getting roped into overpaying for limited players on the descent of their careers. You can't have it both ways.
This thread is the only sane space left on this board with all the whiners and crybabies taking over the rest of GARM. Anyway, here's my two cents on this offseason. Capela will sign the qualifying offer. Morey won't pay him $80-100 million. That's not Moreyball -- Capela is not a superstar. Morey is simply abiding and buying time so he can trade Capela, Anderson, and Gordon for that 3rd superstar at the trade deadline. Again, Morey has always been about flipping assets for superstars. His track record has proven that he can build the rest of the roster with small trades whenever he wants. The Arizas and Moutes are a dime a dozen in this league. Morey wants that 3rd superstar.
Bima, just for fun spit-balling hypothetical here, but would the below work as the basis of a deal and work given the S&T and BYC rules ... some slight massaging to make everyone happy. Rockets trade: Capela S&T to Spurs at $22 million per year, and one of Tucker or Gordon plus future picks to Kings Spurs trade: Kawhi to Rockets Kings trade: Buddy Hield and Skal Labissiere to Spurs. It's not an amazing return for the Spurs and hard caps them and doubt they want to pay Clint that much either, but they move on from Kawhi and get Capela, Hield and Skal Kings get Eric Gordon (or PJ Tucker) and draft picks for Hield and Skal. Kings don't have their draft pick this year and Gordon or Tucker is better than Hield... and Skal is meh.... Bagley plays his spot. Rockets get Kawhi for Capela, Gordon (or Tucker) and draft picks. Obvious win, Kawhi's free agency notwithstanding. Gordon is replaced by Green (or Tucker by Anderson... not great, but worth it)... then just have to replace Clint, which is of course easier said than done, but still worth it.
Capela taking the QO is terrible for us. He'd have the right of refusal to any trade, and would be a UFA next offseason (and likely pissed off enough to walk away). This combination puts a huge dent in his trade value. An overpaid Capela has greater trade value than one who is on the QO. SnT Capela is complicated due to his BYC status, but his whole salary would count to trades in December and onwards. My bias is to offer him 4 yrs at $80-90 MM. Morey is all about asset collection - letting Capela take the QO would be squandering one of our best remaining assets. Capela is oozing with potential and significantly outplayed two of the brightest young Cs in the league. A long-term deal would give us control over a young asset. At the deadline, Capela at $22 MM + Ryno would give us the ability to take in $52 MM in salary! That's plenty to take on a disgruntled star and a bad contract.
Kind of a side note but, so far nobody gave the Spurs an amazing return, otherwise they would've traded him already, just saying.
Morey is about asset colletion, but giving Capela $25m turns him into an albatross not an asset. Yes doing a sign and trade complicates things, but that's never stopped Morey before. #newmath
Hmm... $22 million + $3.8 million $1.5 million = $27.3 million incoming. $20.1 million outgoing. So need to add what like $5-$8 million more outgoing. They don't really have anyone... Bellineli is at $6 million, but they just signed him. Danny Green is at $10 million. He's been pretty underwhelming the last 3 years, but his $10 million contract is expiring so could have some value. So if you add Danny Green to Kings and Frank Mason to Spurs (I mean he wasn't efficient but he put up 8 points and 3 assists in 19 mpg), that should work right? Spurs incoming changes to $28.7 million and outgoing to $30.1 million (not sure if this falls within the standard error of salary matching, lol). A bit easier if you assume Capela at $20 instead of $22. As for gross... for the Rockets?? In a vacuum, you wouldn't trade EG+Capela+crappy draft picks for Kawhi Leonard?? It's only gross if you really think/know he's going to bolt after that year. Which absolutely might be a possibility, but I'd think one you'd have to risk. Kings meanwhile add 3 point shooting, defense and leadership while only losing ho-hum young guys that aren't panning out amazingly. It's probably gross for the Spurs, though. Kawhi+Danny Green for Capela, Hield, Skal, Mason and picks. Can't see any way they'd really want to do that. I was really just trying to make sure I finally fully understand all the rules, lol. Theoretically the Rockets and Spurs pieces can stay somewhat the same and you could exchange Kigns for Hawks, or Nets, right? With Hawks, maybe Schroeder to Spurs. He's at $15.5 SPURS... Capela + Schroeder incoming = $20 (I'm going with $20 now, lol) + $15.5 = $35.5, Kawhi and Pau Gasol outgoing = $36 million Rockets pieces are the same, just EG to the Hawks. And Pau to the Hawks. That's actually probably a better scenario all around, if you can convince the Spurs Schroder is good, lol. I mean I'm not a huge fan of his, but htey would save face by adding a player that puts up stats. He was at 19 ppg, 6 apg, 3 rpg last year. Schroder, Green, Gay, LMA, Capela... ****, Pop would have that team as a top 3-4 seed. And the trade looks ok. Kawhi + eliminating Gasol for Capela and Schroder. The only thing is they might prefer to keep Gasol's expiring.
do you think the same about bob myers? cause he got rid of of javale and swaggy p and zaza players that just have won him the title
