To be fair to Capela though, getting to the rim like he does IS a skill. Yes, his scoring generally needs to be assisted, but most centers cannot do that. And Capela creating vertical spacing also helps Harden and Paul, just as Harden and Paul help him. Capela can also guard players on the perimeter as well as any big man can and his defense is very good. He is a very good player and we shouldn't be selling him short. Also, he's only 24 years old and has been improving every year.
I think Deandre Jordan is a Rocket next year, Clint will take the qualifying offer of 1 year. Clint really got Fame and Fortune in his head. Clint is a fake good guy and his agents want to be selfish multimillionaires it looks like. What else can the Rockets do. Morey is an stubborn ass of a negotiator. Tillman is Drayton cheap.
$28 Harden $40 Paul $20 Capela $88m for the trio that played .900 basketball last year. Worth it? People acting like Clint can't PnR and catch lobs from other PGs. People acting like having a Center who is a rim defender but can also handle his own on perimeter switches isn't super valuable. Offer him more. Go up some.
He's not a valuable asset....so we pay him $40M a year, but Capela is a valuable asset...so we're going to low-ball him? Huh? I'm not saying break the bank and pay him the max when we don't have to, but letting Ariza walk...then letting Luc walk...bringing in Melo who's a downgrade...and now you want to let our best young player take the QO? These are not the moves of a team that wants to try to "run it back" against the Warriors.
One could also argue we wouldn't have homecourt advantage in the WCF or even be in the WCF were it not for Clint. Without Clint, we could have easily been a team upset by the likes of the Jazz or the Pelicans with their 2 Premium Bigs.
If it were up to clutchfans to play GM, we'd walk into every player negotiation with a list of why you suck, are replaceable, and will almost certainly get injured this year so it's really in your best interest to sign our low-ball offer.
Wished to own a time machine to see how he does in 5-6 years though. If he developed a steady jump shot and he got gradually better.
Clutchfans is filled with too much emotion. Many here would cave in at the fear of Capela walking and over pay. Houston will not cave and has no incentive too. Clint loves Houston and he doesn't want to play on a QO while Chris and james are raking in 30-40 Million. He will agree to a 4 Year-75 to 80 million deal and this will all be over before the season starts.
This could be the only huge contract he could ever get, he might never develop a shot midrange or a 3 pointer. His athleticism can be gone by a knee injury.
meet him halfway with 4/80, or just pay the damn man, he's proven himself to be the best center in the NBA, he manhandled KAT and Gobert in the playoffs.
I'm all for keeping Capela, but he has to be off his meds to think he's worth that much. Doesn't matter anyway, Morey is looking towards the long term and trying to save Fertitta money.
