I think that is because we know Realmuto is the real deal, but Stubbs started out extremely hot and is now just doing ok. I hope he continues his good offensive play, but have my doubts as all I ever heard was he was seen an average catcher prospect with decent defensive skills and a limited offensive skill set.

Top 25 hitting prospects are typically young guys that the best pitchers in the minors can't get out in the high minors. Prospect lists are very good at identifying these guys that these guys are very valuable. Considering that these guys are rarely traded and when they are it involves names like Sale and Quintana, I tend to believe front offices generally don't have a very different view than the public lists on these guys. Sure the number may be Top 20 one year or Top 30 the next, but there is a small set of prospects that nearly everyone agrees is highly valuable and only needs polishing before being given a chance in the majors.

Think of it almost like a step. On the top of the step are guys with nearly a 2/3's chance of being an above average MLB player or better. Below the step, guys on average don't produce much more than Marisnick will over his club control years (i.e., a lot of error). Front offices make their money identifying guys outside the Top 25 hitting prospects (guys below step) that make it big prior to dominating the high minors, or at the very least help a little here and there.

Edit: Caveat being that the hitting prospect doesn't have a contact issue or is below AA. This does not apply to Alvarez.

Britton hit 97 in the 9th against the Yanks, was throwing some great sinkers, also bounced a few. Hit 96 with the 4-seam up in the zone. Gave up a leadoff single to Andujar that bounced off Machado's glove, then a WP that was really a PB. Runner got to 3rd with 1 out and then Britton got a K and an easy 4-3 for the save.

First time I'd seen him pitch this year and he looked pretty good. Velocity and bite on the sinker was definitely there. Palmer was saying that he really just recently started kinda looking like his old self.

He'll be way cheaper than he would have been last year (obviously), I'd say do it and clear some of the AAAA logjam, while helping the bullpen. Maybe Strom will help him even more (not guaranteed, but hopefully he would), Sounds like a good target.

Yanks are going to hard for Machado. Latest news reports.
If the Astros dont add a Realmuto type bat the yanks will have a lineup almost unstoppable. The SO's would slow them down. But the power could push them over

So would you give up one of our upside arms (Alcala range) along with Davis for Him? Is that too much for a rental who you are gambling on getting back to his old self?

Oh I have no idea what the market for him is (way above my pay grade). If he looks good for another couple(?) of weeks I'd get reeeaaal interested though.

That was just my report from watching him throw 1 inning. If he can get that 96mph sinker to not bounce it's unhittable (well un-basehittable, he gets a ton of GBs), which is good because that's all he throws. Our IF would do wonders for him, Machado is pretty terrible at SS and the rest of them ain't all that good. The most interesting thing was the O's announcers bringing up his '16 season and saying stuff like "that's what he was doing then".

Lmao. No I'm saying you need more then what we have to compete, if it's a slugfest they should beat us every time.
We have the pitcher battle won.
But side note Brad Peacock should be available via trade for something special

Go play HR Derby somewhere else.

I would be shocked if they traded anyone off of the current 25 man roster during the season.

No to Machado. Keep Alcala, Martin, and Davis for sure. Realmuto is the bat we need. And Smith>Harris for the playoff pen. Smith can come in handy against the Yankees, he has great #s against Judge and Stanton, and that's why we got him. He's really been rebounding from a bad April (IIRC I think it was just one or maybe two games that really ballooned his ERA). Harris has been too shaky. Harris should get replaced by an acquisition (Hand or Britton).

Agree completely about Smith. Absent injury he’s on the playoff roster as a righty killer for judge and Stanton sometime in the 7th or 8th inning I’d bet.
I too see Will Harris as the odd man out, especially if they get a quality lefty.

Been saying it for weeks will Brad Peacock should be traded for a significant piece of the pie.
His stock will never be higher then it is as we speak.
McHugh and Whitley can take over next yr when Dallas leaves.
Use some depth to get stronger

I want JT. He plays catcher and is a great two way player. Just beginning his prime. I'm willing to package Martin, Fisher & Celestino for him.

That doesn’t seem like enough. I don’t know if adding in 2 or 3 of Kemp/Reed/Davis/white helps at all, but if it did I’d be fine with making that a 5 or 6 for 1 if those guys were the driving prospect part of the deal.
I wonder if Martes moves the needle for anyone anymore. If he was helpful to getting JT I’d help him pack his bags.
