I say do it if we get rid of ryan Anderson's contract. Melo will be an expiring contract and lets be honest, worst case scenario is that he doesnt play at all next season. At the same time I dont see why would okc do this considering its a salary dump
There are some advantages to a trade for Melo, which would almost certainly involve a 3rd team with cap space. The disadvantage is obvious...our luxury tax bill would be higher. The advantages are we would retain Melo's bird rights, which would make resigning him easier next year, offload Anderson and we would preserve our taxpayer MLE for another player. An option could be: Houston in: Melo OKC In: Large TPE Chicago: Anderson + filler + Terrence Ferguson + Zhou Qi + HOU 2019 1st
It's OKC Thunders. Oladipo was also not good when he played for OKC. We know what has happened after he left the Thunders.
With Melo and Tuck in a starting lineup, teams won't be able to identify who's the 4. Melo and Tuck could cross match SF/PFs depending on the matchups. Also both of them can pick and pop. Need Luc coming off the bench!
I'm fine with signing a cheap Melo if Morey knows he can deal Anderson to get an actual replacement for Ariza (which Melo obviously is not).
I’ve yet to see one poster from the anti-Melo crew suggest another option... Kelly Iko just reported Mbah a Moute could sign elsewhere. If you’re against Melo, hope you’re okay with Gareld Green or Vince Edwards starting... Or at least getting heavy minutes. Cause that’s what we’re looking at if we don’t make a move on Melo.
We have not heard much about Mbah and his offers but would be interesting to know what the enemy offer is.
Id say okc would have to give chicago a pick as well. We shouldnt be giving up the 1st in this scenario. OKC saves 100 million in salary and luxury tax
Seeing that we are the preferred team, we can offer a little less than 3 million or give him the Taxpayer mle of 5.3 million. Those are our only options. So teams probably arent going to go alot higher than that to pry him off. Since he hasnt gotten paid yet , I assume thats because no one is giving him an MLE level contract.
We switch everything. It never matters who the 3 and 4 are on defense. On offense, Tucker will always be the guy in the corner. Melo would be the big/wing on the wing or elbow. He will be setting quick screens, fading to the wing for open 3s assisted from cp3. If he can pull a defender with him to that deep wing 3, then cp3 will have half the court to breakdown and kick it to the corners or drive. Also if there is a mismatch melo can break them down and drive as well. One of his best offensive skills is to drive to about 5-10 feet and spin around you for the little floater at the basket.
Is your goal to win a ring or to win 60 games? If you are happy with getting first seed and getting bounced out at the WCF then we should just bring out the exact same roster as last year for the exact same result. Harden and Cp3 may be elite players but guess what Draymond Green, Kevin Durant, Iguadala, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and even Boogie are all elite players too. Relying on 2 elite players to beat 6 elite players isn't smart, it is idiotic. Look at GSW, they never rest on their laurels they continue to evolve even if it means taking risks. Their original team already broke the regular season record, they tore that down to add KD. Last year they won a title, but now add Cousins even if it could potentially disrupt their chemistry. So the best team in the league is continually trying to improve yet you want a team that lost to them to stay the same? We also need to take risks even if it ends up backfiring because if stay the same we are gonna lose again anyway. We lost Ariza for nothing they added Boogie we got weaker they got stronger simple as that. Plus, what is the cost here exactly? A vet minimum contract? Worst case just buy him out a vet min is a drop in the bucket of Rox salaries. This move is all upside no downside.
I could have told you this... and im no inside.. Melo will be here... and Melo will thrive in the Rockets system next to CP3.... sooo many in houston and around the nation will be eating crow. Yooollllll c
He could afford him but why? He was only starter because he is friends with harden and cp3 anyway. His offense is unacceptable for a championship level team...our offense will go nuclear with any competent offensive player replacing him.
